Wright Gets Flushed

With the board reading {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, Larry Wright bet 1,200 and received a call from the player to his immediate left. One player shot his hand into the muck and two more decided to tag along.

With four players still holding live hands, the dealer produced the {Q-Diamonds} on the river. Wright and the player on his left checked, prompting a player at the opposite end of the table to bet 2,750. The button folded and Wright counted out a call and slid it into the middle. The last remaining player folded and the dealer asked the players to expose their hands.

Wright's opponent showed {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} for a flush and Wright shot up out of his chair.

"Wooooooow!" bellowed Wright. "That is a COOLER!"

Wright slapped {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts} on the table for a turned straight. The dealer collected his cards and threw them face down in the muck and awarded Wright's opponent the pot. With this loss, Wright is now sporting a stack of about 14,000.

Nguyen Eliminates Player In Dramatic Fashion

We caught up in time to see a boatload of chips in the middle of the table. A player was all in and at risk holding {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for that player, he was behind the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} of Andrew Nguyen.

Nguyen was out in the lead before the flop, but quickly took a back seat on the {8-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{K-Spades} flop when the pocket queens made a set. The {10-Spades} turn brought Nguyen both straight and flush outs to win the hand.

In the end, Nguyen got there when the {J-Hearts} peeled off on fifth street. After he scooped the pot and stacked his chips, we clocked Nguyen at having around 50,000 in chips.

Riches For Richey

A player opened to 700 and Brett Richey called from the cutoff. The button flung out a call and the player in the small blind moved her stack of roughly 10,000 all in. The big blind and the original raiser got out of the way and action was back on Richey.

After about thirty seconds, Richey called and the button released his hands, prompting the two to turn their cards over:

Richey: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}

The board fell {2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Richey's nines were able to hold, earning him the pot and reducing the field by one. Richey is currently sitting on about 38,000 in chips.

WSOP Champions and Runners Up

Day 1c of this event turned up a total of 577 runners and among the field sits a handful of players who have at one point in time achieved the greatest accomplishment in poker: Winning the World Series of Poker Main Event.

Greg Raymer skyrocketed to stardom when he overcame a field of 2,576 players to win the 2004 World Series of Poker championship and has been a key ambassador for the game of poker ever since. Raymer is currently serving with Maria Ho as one of the ambassadors for the WinStar World Casino for the 2012 River Poker Series.

A few tables over sits not one, but two WSOP Main Event champions. The 1998 champion Scotty Nguyen is seated at the opposite end of the table from the man credited helping to start the poker boom, the 2003 WSOP champion Chris Moneymaker.

Players in today's flight also have the chance to be playing with men who famously finished second in the most prestigious event of the year. TJ Cloutier was the runner up to Bill Smith in 1985 and once again to Chris Ferguson in 2000. Across the room you can also find Paul Wasicka who came in second to Jamie Gold in 2006.

Only time will tell if these legends of poker will be able to overcome the field here in Thackerville, Oklahoma in what is their last opportunity to make the Day 2 field.
