Day 1f of WPT National Montreal is over and Senthuran Vijayaratnam bagged almost 800,000, which is the overall chip lead going into Day 2.

The previous mark was set by Benoit Beaulac with 648,000 on Day 1a. As the players bagged for Day 2, the final starting flight was going strong, with 135 runners in the turbo flight.

Rodney Ramalho, who is the only player to cash two times so far, failed to make Day 2 again. He is in the final turbo flight and is trying to add a third cash and finally break through to Day 2. Day 2 begins tomorrow at 1 p.m. and the day will end when only six players remain.

Yu Gao - Eliminated
Yu Gao - Eliminated

Yu Gao was under the gun and he shoved all in for his remaining 78,000. The action folded all the way around to Elaine Rawn in the big blind. She calls quickly and showed {a-}{a-}. Gao had {a-}{q-}.

The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Gao was eliminated. Rawn is now over 250,000 with 17 players remaining. Gao headed over to the Day 1g turbo flight and is taking another shot at Day 2 in the WPT National Montreal.

Isabelle Tremblay Busts the Bubble, Jason Kastner Eliminated in 28th Place

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Isabelle Tremblay
Isabelle Tremblay

Jason Kastner puts in his last 20,000 in early position. He had only five big blinds and Isabelle Tremblay called from the cutoff.

Amir Babakhani folded {5-}{2-} from the big blind, leaving Tremblay heads up with Kastner. Kastner was at risk, but held {k-}{k-}. Tremblay turned over {7-Spades}{8-Spades}, but for some reason, everyone at the table seemed to think she had a monster.

It turned out to be a monster when the board ran out {7-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-}{8-}, giving Tremblay a full house. Kastner was eliminated. Each remaining player is now guaranteed CAD $750.

Benoit Jean Eliminated, Rawn Shoves on Stanic

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Benoit Jean
Benoit Jean
  • Kevin Vannicola opened from early position to 11,000 and Benoit Jean called off his last 1,200. The remaining players folded and the two were heads up with Jean at risk holding {a-}{5-} against {4-}{4-}. Vannicola flopped a set and Jean turned a gut-shot wheel draw, but didn't get there as the board ran out {k-}{6-}{4-}{2-}{k-}.
  • Sasa Stanic opened on the button to 4,000 and Michael Rawn shoved all in for 27,000 from the small blind. Stanic took a moment before folding and showing {a-}{10-} to Rawn. Rawn flipped over an ace and showed it before he mucked his hand and took the pot.

Isabelle Tremblay Finding Her Stride

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Isabelle Tremblay
Isabelle Tremblay

Isabelle Tremblay has played most of the starting flights for WPT National Montreal and hasn't been able to make any deep runs to this point.

Earlier today it looked like more of the same when she was the third person all in preflop with the best hand. She had {10-}{10-} against {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and {8-}{8-}. She was ahead until the river. When the {a-Spades} hit the river, Co Tran won the hand. Orlando Moretti was eliminated and Tremblay was left with 9,000.

Over the last few levels she has managed to build her stack over 70,000. Her demeanor at the table is confident and calculated.

On one recent hand, she was on the button.

Before the action came to her, she was watching each player in turn. One by one they folded until it was her turn. She finally looked at her own cards and then the stacks of the two players in the blinds. She raised to 3,000 and and resumed her comfortable pose. Sitting straight with both hands laid on top of her cards, one atop the other.

Yu Gao was in the small blind and seemed to react when Tremblay raised. A few seconds later, he mucked his hand. Tam Ho's hand quickly followed Gao's into the muck and Tremblay took down the pot.

The Most Disappointed Person in the Field Might Be the Guy Who Cashed Twice Already

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Rodney Romalho
Rodney Romalho

Rodney Ramalho was in the first few flights of WPT National Montreal. He took yesterday off, after making two deep runs on consecutive days.

The flights started at 10 a.m. and each flight has been roughly 12 hours long. Ramalho has made the last table of two different starting flights, cashed two times for CAD $1,250 each, but failed to make Day 2. Both days he hit a bit of a wall and was eliminated just before the Day 2 bubble.

The first time he was eliminated, he ran queens into kings and both he and his opponent flopped sets. He didn't make quads and was eliminated seventh. Five people made Day 2 from that flight. The next day, he was sitting at 455,000 after eliminating Norman Messier. The blinds were 3,000 and 6,000 with an ante of 1,000. By the next level he would be eliminated in sixth place, one step closer to Day 2, but still one step too short.

He doubled up Daniel Charette and then continued to lose pots until he finally busted. Ramalho has taken home CAD $2,500 from WPT National Montreal so far, but after two long days and only a couple min cashes to show for it, Ramalho might be the most disappointed person in the tournament, despite being the only player to cash twice.
