The biggest buy-in of the 2023 World Series of Poker Paradise here at Atlantis Resort in The Bahamas has come to a close as Masashi Oya takes down Event #9: $100,000 Ultra High Roller Championship, taking home the bracelet and the first-place prize money of $2,940,000! Finishing in the runner-up spot just shy of the ultimate goal was Jason Koon who will take home $1,817,000 for the second-place finish.
The tournament ran over the course of three days and brought in 111 total entries helping the prize-pool grow to a staggering $11,100,000. When the third and final day began, 10 players remained and after starting the final day with the chip lead and never letting it go, Oya stands alone atop what was an absolutely stacked field of high roller regulars.

Winner's Reaction
Oya expressed through a translator that he was absolutely elated to take down his first bracelet in such a huge tournament. The accomplishment was made even more special by the fact that the victory doubles his lifetime career live earnings and that it will be only the ninth bracelet to ever head home with a player from Japan. Oya isn't done in The Bahamas yet, though, as he plans to finish out the WSOP Paradise before heading to Las Vegas for the WPT World Championship where he'll look to put himself in position to chase down another seven-figure score.
Action of the Day
The unofficial final table of nine was reached when Leonard Maue lost to the ace-high of Koon before exiting in 10th. Lucas Greenwood was soon to follow after finding the exit in a sick three-handed preflop all in situation that saw aces cracked by queens. Danny Tang followed shortly thereafter when he called off from the big blind only to be out-flopped and sent home in eighth. Ben Heath became the seventh-place finisher after a the runout gave Oya a runner-runner straight to crack the aces of Heath and send him out the door.
Ivan Luca found the rail in sixth place during the same level as Heath after getting his remaining chips all-in with king-high and remaining unimproved after five cards.
The final table lost it's most decorated member when four-time WSOP bracelet winner Nick Schulman lost a preflop all-in from a dominating position when Koon spiked a king on the turn to close the door on bracelet number five for Schulman. Quan Zhou got in less than ten blinds against the eventual champion and couldn't stave off elimination when Oya turned a straight to send Zhou out the door.
Leon Sturm was pushed close to the door in what became a massive pot where Sturm bet huge on the river with two pair only to lose to the small flush of Oya and be left with only one big blind. He would bust at the hands of Koon the following deal, setting up the heads up battle to follow.
Unfortunately for Koon, that battle was short-lived as only a few hands into the heads up play, Koon would call off his remaining chips to a river jam from Oya. When the cards were on their backs, Koon showed a straight to the nine only to have his suspicions confirmed when Oya turned over a straight to the ten to end the high stakes crusher's run at a second bracelet.

Jason Koon limped the button and Masashi Oya checked his option in the big blind to bring out the 9♦7♥5♦ flop.
Both players checked through to see the turn bring the 8♣.
Oya paused before reaching for chips and making a bet worth 1,000,000. Koon made the call and watched as the river brought the 4♠.
Oya jammed, putting Koon to a decision for his tournament life. Koon stood up and talked his way through the hand while he pondered his action, stating that he had a six for a straight but that he believed Oya to hold the 10x6x for the nut straight.
"I started the hand with 20 big blinds and I'm thinkin' about folding a straight. That's... that's obnoxious, isn't it?", Koon said.
Eventually, he would say, "I hope we're chopping" as he put in the call and turned up Q♠6♥ only to see Oya turn over the 10♣6♣ for a tournament ending straight that sent Koon to the rail in second place for $1,817,000.

The K♣6♦4♥ flop was checked to the J♥ turn. Oya check-called for 2,000,000 and the 7♦ river was checked down.
Oya showed K♥6♣ for two pair to take the pot as Koon flashed the J♠.
On the next hand, Oya limped and Koon checked his option. Koon check-called for 500,000 on the 8♠5♥3♣ flop and check-called for 800,000 on the 6♠ turn, only to check-fold against a bet on the 2♠ river.

Sturm put in his last 50,000 and got called by both Oya and Koon before seeing the 10♠ hit the turn.
Action checked through to the J♥ river on which action checked through once more to showdown.
Koon turned over the Q♥J♣ which was good enough to take the pot down and send Sturm home in third place for $1,322,000.

Oya Leaves Sturm With Crumbs

Masashi Oya raised to 1,000,000 on the button and Leon Sturm defended the big blind.
The dealer fanned out the K♣9♣2♦ flop and Sturm checked. Oya bet 750,000 and Sturm called.
The 5♥ landed on the turn, Sturm checked, and Oya bet 2,500,000. Sturm check-raised to 7,200,000 and Oya used a time extension before he called.
The 3♣ fell on the river and Sturm used a time extension before he bet 13,500,000, leaving about 550,000 behind. Oya used a time extension of his own and tossed in a chip for the call.
Sturm tabled K♠9♥ for top two pair, but it was no good as Masashi tabled 8♣6♣ for a rivered flush.
"That was a big pot," Jason Koon observed.

Sturm Gets Value on River

Leon Sturm raised to 1,750,000 from the small blind and got called by Masashi Oya from the big blind to bring out the K♠4♠8♠ flop.
Action checked through to the Q♣ turn on which action checked through again to bring the 7♥ out on the river.
Sturm paused briefly before reaching for chips and making a bet of 2,300,000. Oya grabbed chips and made a pretty quick call only to send his cards into the muck after seeing Sturm turn over the K♦7♣.

The K♠ turn was checked to the K♣ river and Oya led out for 1,300,000.
"He's a nice man. Pay him his money," Koon said as he tossed in the chips.
Oya revealed Q♥6♦, while Koon tabled A♠Q♦ to claim the pot.

King-High Good for Oya

Action checked through to the 4♥ turn.
Sturm decided on leading and did so with a bet of 1,800,000. Oya wasn't done with the hand yet, though, and made the call to see the 10♥ fall on the river.
Both players checked through again and Oya turned over K♣2♣, getting a quick fold from Sturm as Oya takes this one down with just king-high.
