Rony Upsets Cordero

Tristan Clemençon opened to 1,500, and Damien Rony just called. Next to act, Mario Cordero three-bet. Action folded back to Clemençon, who gave up his hand. Rather than following suit, Rony moved all in, and Cordero quickly called with the rest of his stack. Rony threw up his hands when he saw that his {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades} were in terrible shape against Cordero's {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}.

But it quickly became Cordero's turn for exasperation. The {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop gave Rony's set of jacks the lead. The {3-Spades} turn and {k-Clubs} river failed to rescue Cordero. He made some fake weeping noises as he got up, earning a laugh from the table and a farewell handshake from Rony. After busting Cordero, Rony moved up to 46,000.

Straight to the Eight for Inizan

Marc Inizan opened from early position with a raise to 1,375. "Passe... passe... passe," said the dealer as the table folded around to the player in the cutoff seat. Incidentally, both French and English are the official languages for this event, and we're hearing dealers using both, while the players most often are speaking French.

The player in the cutoff called Inizan's raise, and the remaining players all chose to "passe" as well. The flop came {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Clubs}, and both players checked. The turn brought the {7-Hearts} and a bet of 1,500 from Inizan. His opponent raised to 5,000, and Inizan called without much delay.

The river came the {6-Diamonds}. Inizan paused a moment, then checked, and his opponent checked as well. Inizan waited as his opponent slowly showed one of his cards -- the {3-Hearts} -- giving him a straight. Inizan then flipped his over, showing {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for the better straight. After a brief explanation to Inizan's opponent -- in English, actually -- the dealer flipped his opponent's other card to show the {K-Hearts} before pushing both into the muck, and the chips toward Inizan.

Inizan keeps battling, and now has 24,000.

Gomes Caught Bluffing

Alexandre Gomes decided to get tricky in this hand and in the end, it has cost him roughly 35% of his stack.

The players in the cutoff and small blind had limped in and Gomes popped it to 3,600 from the big blind. Both opponents called and the flop came down {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. It was checked to Gomes and he fired 5,600, quickly ridding the pot of the player in the cutoff. The player in the small blind, though, called after about two minutes in the tank.

The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn and again the action was checked to Gomes. He bet 35,000, covering his opponent's stack. After about another two minutes thinking it over, his opponent called all in for 28,075.

"Good call," said Gomes, turning over {Q-Spades}{2-Hearts}. His opponent tabled {10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Gomes found no help from the {K-Spades} river card, dropping to about 65,000.

Surrender to Surinder

A player in middle position raised to 1,100, and Surinder Sunar flatted. The Ed-Hardy-bedecked big blind joined in as well. The flop fell a coordinated {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}, and the original raiser bet 1,100. Sunar paused before making it 5,100 to see a turn card. That was too much for Mr. Hardy. The bettor checked out Sunar's stack and counted his own before deciding it was also too much for him. Sunar scooped the pot, moving up to 43,000.

Bevand's Jacks Best

Preflop action left three players to see a flop come {8-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Bruno "Kool Shen" Lopes checked, Manuel Bevand fired a nearly pot-sized bet of 5,000, the third player folded, and Lopes made the call.

The turn brought an {A-Clubs}, which appeared to thwart further action as both players hastily checked. The river brought the {9-Diamonds}, and a couple more quick checks. Lopes showed {J-Spades}{10-Spades}, having failed to improve on that pretty straight flush draw, while Bevand tabled {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} to take the pot.

Bevand sits with about 90,000 at the moment, while Lopes has 64,000.

Leonetti Served a Trey

Christophe Leonetti limped from middle position, a player in late position minimum-raised to 1,000, and it folded back to Leonetti who called. The flop came {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Leonetti checked, his opponent bet 2,500, and Leonetti made the call. The turn was the {A-Clubs}. Leonetti again checked, and this time his opponent fired 5,000. Leonetti again called.

The river was the {10-Clubs}. Leonetti tapped the felt one more time to check, and his opponent quickly checked behind, showing {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. He'd avoided further trouble with that last check, as Leonetti tabled {3-Hearts}{3-Spades} for a set of treys.

Leonetti moves back up to 39,500.

Inizan's Slide Continues

Marc Inizan wishes he'd taken an extended dinner break. After his lighter-than-air four-bet was picked off a few minutes ago, he saw a raised pot three-handed. It fell {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}, and the first player to act bet 2,200. Inizan called, and the third man folded. The turn came the {10-Hearts}, and Inizan's opponent quickly checked to him. Marc bet 3,400 and got a call. The river was the {4-Hearts}, and the first player checked again. Inizan bet 8,600, sending his opponent into the tank. He thought long enough that Inizan thought he must be good. The other player called, and Inizan triumphantly tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. But his smile quickly became a scowl when his reluctant caller showed {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}.

Inizan is down to 16,000 and muttering to himself.
