On the river after they've bet out 12,700 it's even more of a tough decision, as was the case when Almira Skripchenko bet out and Eric Haik put her all in. She looked at the board of and thought for a while but finally decided to fold.
At about the same time, Stuart Rutter was being re-raised preflop by Fabrice Touil (5,100 to 12,000). He called, and checked the flop. "How much are you playing?" asked Touil. "76." "I'm all in," said Touil. Rutter remained motionless (apart from a brief self countdown performed at the start of the thinking process) but also opted for the fold option.
With the board reading , Andrew Teng was facing a bet of 30,000 from Patrick Bruel. Teng had thought for ages before getting the clock called on him and with about 30 seconds left, he check-raised to 120,000. Bruel instantly moved all-in and Teng equally quickly, folded.
Ever the showman, Bruel threw down down for rivered Quads to take a huge pot from the Englishman. Bruel up to 325,000 and Teng down to 240,000.
Try saying that ten times fast with a mouth full of marbles. Anyhow Lopes just received a full double up courtesy of Matthew Hopkins. On a flop of Hopkins had bet but then found himself in an awkward spot as Lopes moved in for just 23,400 more (into a pot of what looked like 60k). With a shrug he made the call, nodding resignedly when he saw Lopes' and tabling his own with a shrug. The turn and river were the leaving Hopkins with 55k and Lopes over 100k.
Hopkins couldn't manage to recover and has since been eliminated.
The leaders at the start of the day are going strong through level 12, although their actual stacks are growing to the point where they look totally excellent and can be almost hidden behind, but in their multicoloured layers are quite hard to count. These are the rough big stacks (although leaders and losers are changing with alacrity at the moment) hoping to make Day Four in good shape...
Aussie Millions Winner Tyron Krost has been eliminated in a huge pot by Jimmy Ostensson.
Krost had been set all-in for about 170,000 on the river of a board and made the call after much thought. Ostensson showed for the flopped nuts and Krost tapped the table and mucked what he said was
Steven van Zadelhoff has shot up in chips this afternoon, busting the first player and most recently taking a chunk from neighbour Fabrice Touil, with whom he seems to be battling a lot and winning the war.
In a small blind vs. big blind encounter, van Zadelhoff raised when it passed round to him to 6k. Big blind Touil made the call, but passed when van Zadelhoff bet out 7k on the flop.
The very next hand, van Zadelhoff, now the button, raised when it passed to him again - to 4,400. This time small blind Touil repopped it to 17k, which van Zadelhoff eventually called.
The flop: . Check-check.
The turn: . Now Touil bet out 18k. After a motionless finger-locked think for about half a minute, van Zadelhoff raised to 75k. Touil instapassed.
Kevin Eyster has been eliminated by Iulian Iacob. Steven Van Zadelhoff kindly told us that he had raised with Iacob calling before Eyster squeezed and moved all-in. Van Zadelhoff folded by Iacob called with and spiked against Eyster's to bust the American who had finished in 16th spot at EPT Monte Carlo.
Patrick Bruel, who seems to attract cameras even when he's not in a pot, has been getting involved on day three as much as the previous two and somehow divides his time between betting and chatting to the press/rail with an equally relaxed air.
Just now he bet out 6k on a flop, picking up lone caller Eric Haik. The turn brought the and another 14k bet. Haik thought a bit longer but called. The river saw an equally nonchalant bet from Bruel, and this time Haik gave it a dwell, removing one ipod earbud and fixing his opponent with a stare.
At this exact moment, a player on the adjacent table's mobile phone rang with the tone "HAAAAAAAAALLELUJAH! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!" which may have been some kind of prompt for Haik who passed.
