Rossiter Finds Aces

There is never a bad time to be dealt aces in poker but one of the best times to find them in your possession is when your opponent has a pair of kings in their hand.

All the chips went flying preflop, Rossiter holding {a-Clubs}{a-Spades} to Julien Biague's {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. The board ran out {3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} and Rossiter is now armed with 170,000 chips, whilst Biague drops to just 55,000.

Last Break

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

The players have been sent on their final 10-minute break of the night. When they return we will play one more 90-minute level before wrapping things up for the day.

Favia Keeps Adding Chips To His Stack

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Francesco Favia is still flying high in the main event and has just added some more chips to his impressive stack.

Jackson Genovesi opened to 4,800 in middle position, Favia called in the hijack and both players then called the 15,000 squeeze from Jack Salter who was on the button. After the preflop action we had our pens at the ready but were let down when all three players checked the {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, the {10-Diamonds} turn and the {3-Clubs} river.

Favia turned over {7-Hearts}[7d, which beat Genovesi's {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} and Salter mucked.

Phil Hellmuth Eliminated

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth has been eliminated and will not be adding a WPT title to his 12-WSOP bracelets after being eliminated at the hands of Bastien Lebel.

Lebel opened to 4,000 in early position, Hellmuth initially called in mid-position before Zeljko Krizan moved his short stack across the line on the button. Lebel then moved all-in prompting Hellmuth to straighten up out of his chair. The bet was just over 100,000 and was slightly more than Hellmuth had in front of him. Eventually, Hellmuth decided to call

Lebel: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Hellmuth: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}
Krizan: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The first three cards out of the deck are {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and they are soon followed by the {9-Diamonds}.

"It doesn't look like it is going to come," says Hellmuth.

The river is the {Q-Clubs} and Hellmuth is visibly upset.

"This kid slides it all-in with just a pair of sevens, how sick? I trapped the kid as well," says Hellmuth.

"Two sevens? What are you playing at?" Says Tony G

"He plays every hand. He doesn't know what he is doing, Tony," says Hellmuth.

Cajelais Crushed

Erik Cajelais' tournament has come to an end, he will not be winning WPT Malta.

We turned up just as the cards were being flipped over, Cajelais had apparently four-bet shoved from the cutoff with {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} and was called by Gabriel Kerignard in the small blind with his {a-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

Kerignard took the lead on the {7-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Hearts} flop and stayed ahead as the turn and river were the {4-Hearts} and {k-Spades}.

Arnaud Assassinated

Arnaud Mattern
Arnaud Mattern

Ask anyone who is around the major European poker tours about how badly Arnaud Mattern runs in tournaments and they will all agree he gets his money in good time and time again but gets sucked out on continually. It has just happened again

Mattern four-bet shoved for 50,000 with pocket aces and was called by the jacks of his fellow Frenchman Julian Biage. Mattern was a huge 82% favorite but that all changed as a jack landed on the flop to gift Biage a set, which held, to send Mattern to the rail disappointed once again.

Chin up Arnaud!

O'Brien Makes A Difficult Fold

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

In poker the chips you save by folding are extremely valuable but nobody likes folding do they?

Ilan Boujenah opened to 4,000 from middle position and after one player folded Jusso Leppanen three-bet to 10,000. Dan O'Brien then called in the big blind and Boujenah then made up the difference.

A trio of checks greeted the {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop but when the {7-Hearts} fell on the turn O'Brien lead out for 14,000. Boujenah almost instantly moved all in for 113,000 in total. Leppanen snap-folded but O'Brien was left with a decision for his tournament life.

It took almost two minutes for O'Brien, who looked agonized by his decision, to fold and he admitted halfway through his thinking time that he had miscounted his stack preflop and was now in a tough spot.

He did however fold and is still in with a shot. Boujenah mucked his hand so we will never know what he had.
