The Penultimate Day is Upon Us

Can Thierry van den Berg make the comeback of a liftime?
Can Thierry van den Berg make the comeback of a liftime?

Day 4 of the World Poker Tour Amsterdam Main Event starts at 2pm local time (in about 90 minutes). Still 16 players are in contention for that coveted €215,000 first place prize, including a ticket for the World Poker Tour Championship at seasons ends. The players are all guaranteed €10,200, but the ladder is steep and the rewards for the winner so much higher than any other finishing place. That should make for an entertaining match of poker today; nobody wants to go home now, all of them want to reach the final table.

The plan for today is to play down to a final table of 6. In recent WPT Main Events in Europe, the penultimate day was a short one. With the stacks very deep at the moment, that's not likely to be the case here in Amsterdam. The average stack is 80 big blinds going into Day 4, so expect a long day of poker action in the nations capital.

Chip leader going in is Sweden's Fredrik Andersson, who already had the 'chip leader jacket' after finishing Day 1a on top. Close on his heels are local pro Joep van den Bijgaart and Sorel Mizzi. All three of them bring more than a million chips to the table this afternoon. The likes of WPT Amsterdam High Roller champion Jason Wheeler and MCOP side-event winners Louis Salter and Kees van Brugge are also still in contention. Short stack coming into todays action is Thierry van den Berg, the grinder with maybe the most experience of all 16.

Levels will be once again 90 minutes long, and like all preceding days, PokerNews is the place to be for all the updates you can ask for. All the bust outs, all the double ups, all the suck outs, and all the coolers - you'll read 'em right here. So check back in 90 minutes for continuing updates from the first ever World Poker Tour Main Event in The Netherlands.
