Who'll Be Back For More?

Farid Yachou will be back!
Farid Yachou will be back!

In 4 hours time (2pm local time), Day 1b of the 2016 World Poker Tour Amsterdam will commence. Like yesterday's Day 1a, another 9 levels are on the schedule. Players once again will start with a 30,000 bank, with blinds starting at 50/100.

A total of 115 players signed up yesterday, and 52 of those bagged chips at the end of the day. Those 63 players that busted out, have the option to buy back in today to give it another shot. Initially the plan was to leave it at that, just two entries maximum for this tournament, but things changed yesterday when the organization announced registration would remain open till the start of Day 2 for a maximum of 3 entries per player.

One of the players that pledged to be back in action today was 2015 WPT Amsterdam champion Farid Yachou. After winning this event here last year, he went on to win the World Poker Tour Tournament of Champions last month and is now looking to continue his unbelievable streak here in Amsterdam. He busted yesterday on Day 1a, but will return to the felt today.

PokerNews.com will once again be on sight the entire day to give you all the updates from the Main Event you can ask for. Stay tuned!

Guess Who's Here/Back?

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The room is buzzing with players again, the clock mentions 80 players registered so far today. Amongst the players in attendance, are several players that tried their luck yesterday but busted. Govert Metaal is one of them, after getting busted in the last hand last night, he's back for more today.

Another player we saw just sitting down, is Paul Newey. He did survive yesterday, finishing the day with the shortest stack of 54 survivers. He bagged 17,700 last night, but tries again today. This tournament has a best stack forward rule in play, so let's see how he does today.

The Biggest Stars in Poker

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Doug Lee, with $1,904,028 in total live earnings, has just six cashes outside of the United States, and just a single one is from a tournament in Europe. We hadn't seen him in The Netherlands before, but here he is! Lee shares the table with Noah Boeken, the Dutch EPT and MCOP champion that busted yesterday when his set of fives ran into a set of aces.

As if Lee didn't bring star power enough to the field today, none other than Marcel Lüske just sat down. Lüske is the all time money leader in The Netherlands with $4,416,387 in live tournament earnings.

Peters Wins a Small One

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

From middle position Tobias Peters made it 400 to go. Action folded around to Paul Newey in the big blind and he called. Both players checked on {4-Spades}{K-Spades}{8-Clubs} and the {6-Clubs} popped up on the turn. Newey bet 800 and Peters made the call.

The {3-Spades} completed the board and Newey checked. Peters checked behind instantly and Newey announced he had an eight. Peters showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and took down the small pot.

Lee Makes Someone Fold a Straight

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

As we walked past a table, there was a discussion going on because one player had only one card, but the hand was already well underway. The ruling was that it was not a miss deal because the player should have paid attention himself, and in the end he just folded his single card.

When we returned to the table a little bit later, another interesting situation occurred. On a board of {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} the player in the big blind had a bet of 4,000 in front of him. Doug Lee had raised to 21,500 and the big blind was in the tank.

After some minutes, the big blind open folded his {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Doug Lee raked in the chips and showed the {Q-Spades}.
