Who'll Be Back For More?

Farid Yachou will be back!
Farid Yachou will be back!

In 4 hours time (2pm local time), Day 1b of the 2016 World Poker Tour Amsterdam will commence. Like yesterday's Day 1a, another 9 levels are on the schedule. Players once again will start with a 30,000 bank, with blinds starting at 50/100.

A total of 115 players signed up yesterday, and 52 of those bagged chips at the end of the day. Those 63 players that busted out, have the option to buy back in today to give it another shot. Initially the plan was to leave it at that, just two entries maximum for this tournament, but things changed yesterday when the organization announced registration would remain open till the start of Day 2 for a maximum of 3 entries per player.

One of the players that pledged to be back in action today was 2015 WPT Amsterdam champion Farid Yachou. After winning this event here last year, he went on to win the World Poker Tour Tournament of Champions last month and is now looking to continue his unbelievable streak here in Amsterdam. He busted yesterday on Day 1a, but will return to the felt today.

PokerNews.com will once again be on sight the entire day to give you all the updates from the Main Event you can ask for. Stay tuned!

Threes Don't Work for Yachou

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Farid Yachou
Farid Yachou

World Poker Tour Amsterdam and WPT Tournament of Champions winner Farid Yachou busted yesterday after pushing the action with {3-}{3-} and running them into {Q-}{Q-}. Just now, he again lost chips with treys.

We saw the big blind check on a flop of {4-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and under the gun player Yachou bet 700. Just the cutoff called, the big blind folded. Both Yachou and the cutoff checked on the {A-Diamonds} turn and the {Q-Spades} completed the board. Yachou bet a firm 1,800 and was quickly called. Yachou tabled {3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} for just about the nut low, the cutoff showed {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and took it down.

Mensonides Busts to Aydin

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Fatih Aydin
Fatih Aydin

David Boyaciyan opened under the gun for 600 and he received no less than four calls. All five of them checked on {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Clubs} and the {K-Diamonds} hit the turn. Both the big blind, Boyaciyan and the hijack all checked, but cutoff Fatih Aydin bet 1,575. On the button Menno Mensonides shoved all in (for about 7,000 according to Aydin, he told us after the hand) and action folded to Aydin. Aydin called immediately and Mensonides got the bad news right away.

Menno Mensonides: {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Fatih Aydin: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}

The {10-Hearts} river was a blank and Mensonides made his exit from the tournament. Aydin, who busted the high roller in third earlier today, is up to 45,000.

"I can Beat That!" - No You Can't

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Pierre Neuville
Pierre Neuville

The player under the gun raised to 750 and the player on the button and the player in the small blind both called. Big blind Pierre Neuville squeezed to 3,000 and after giving it some thoughts, both the initial raiser and button folded.

Some players thought the hand was over, but like a bolt from the blue it was the small blind pushing all in for an undisclosed amount. Neuville wasn't shying away and called just about instantly.

"Oh my god, I'm in trouble" said the small blind, "You have a pair?"

Neuville showed his {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, which relieved his opponent; "Oh! I can beat that!", and he showed {10-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

The flop came {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and the small blind still seemed convinced he had a fair chance. He needed a queen but it wouldn't come; {7-Hearts} on the turn and {4-Clubs} on the river.

Peters Makes a Big Call

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Tobias Peters
Tobias Peters

Action folded to Kees van Brugge on the button and the Dutch grinder raised to 1,300. Small blind Tobias Peters made the call, Rob Strong folded his big blind.

The two had been chatting all day long, even in pots, but this time around it was rather quiet as the dealer fanned {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Peters checked, and called the 1,700 continuation bet that followed.

The {7-Diamonds} hit the turn, and instead of checking, Peters now lead out for 3,700. Van Brugge called in position.

The {6-Spades} completed the board and Peters bet 5,700. Van Brugge tanked for a bit before reaching for chips and raising to 14,500.

Peters leaned back in his chair and pondered what to do for a bit. He scratched his chin, leaned forward again, and eventually tossed in two black 5,000-chips to call.

Van Brugge nodded his head in defeat, showing {A-Clubs}{2-Hearts} not much later. Peters tabled {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and the table was in awe.

"You got balls!" Jer el Salsero commented.

"Nice call" said Van Brugge to his neighbor, which prompted the chatter between the two again.

"I was gambling the right way" commented Peters, and the two continued to discuss the hand.

Day of Drama Done for Dutch Champion

Level 8 : 300/600, 75 ante
Noah Boeken
Noah Boeken

Noah Boeken, winner of both an EPT Main Event and a Master Classics of Poker Main Event, couldn't really get things going today. We just ran into him while he was making his way to the exit, as he muttered about a day full of drama being finally done.

He got it in with {5-}{5-} against {A-}{K-} and couldn't hold. His 15,000 stack is now in possession of someone else at the table. Boeken thinks about giving it another try tomorrow.

Marco Della Tommasino Leads After Day 1b of WPT Amsterdam Main Event

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Day 1b of the 2016 World Poker Tour Amsterdam €3,300 Main Eevnt generated 172 entries. Quite a lot of them had already tried the day before on Day 1a, but gave it another shot after busting their first bullet. The 172 of Day 1b combined with the 115 of Day 1a made for a total field of 287. That number can still grow as registration will remain open till the start of Day 2, so look for an update on Thursday.

Ending the day as chip leader was Marco Della Tommasino from Italy with 183,400. Right on his heels were Mark McGovern from the United Kingdom, accumulating 179,700 in chips, and Artur Koren with 174,700. Kees Alblas (162,000) and Marcel Goldenbelt (139,200) were a couple of hometown players finishing the day with impressive stacks.

Amongst the players on their second bullet was Farid Yachou, who tried Tuesday but couldn't get things going and busted before the dinner break on that starting day. Yachou, who won this event last year and won the World Poker Tour Tournament of Champions last month, started out doing better on Wednesday, but unfortunately busted in the last level of the night. The dream of a third win in a WPT events is still alive, but this must not have been the way he had envisioned it and Yachou will have to try his hand at the next stop.

Another player that played on Day 1a and gave it another go on Day 1b was Paul Newey. Remarkably, Newey survived Day 1a, though short with 17,700. He was the sole player to make use of the option to play both starting days and have the best stack move forward. He busted on Day 1b, so he'll have to do with 17 big blinds on Day 2.

Noah Boeken was another player to reenter, but he didn't make it again. The Dutch European Poker Tour and Master Classics of Poker champion busted in the penultimate level of the day when his fives couldn't beat ace-king. Boeken was thinking about entering again right before the start of Day 2, so he still has a chance to end this endeavor in the black.

Boeken's former mentor, Marcel Lüske, did better, as the Dutch all-time money leader, according to Hendon Mob, ended the day with 58,100.

The life of the party was, as always, Tobias Peters. He chatted all day long, and had the right table to do so with talkative players like Steve Warburton, Jer el Salsero, Rob Strong, and Kees van Brugge. It was van Brugge who tangled the most with Peters during the day, and the two played one of the more remarkable hands we saw. Peters bet-called the river in that hand with third pair, no kicker, and was right as van Brugge turned over nothing but ace-deuce high.

On Thursday, Day 2 will come. Registration will remain open till the start of play at 2 p.m. local time, and you can check back then for continuing coverage of the World Poker Tour Amsterdam Main Event right here on PokerNews.com.
