Ludovic Moryousef Leads Record Field in Marrakech After Day 1

Ludovic Moryousef Leads After Day 1
Ludovic Moryousef Leads After Day 1

After a relaxed start in the first level of the day, the poker room of the Casino de Marrakech quickly filled up for Day 1 of the 2017 PMU.fr WPT DeepStacks Marrakech MAD 13,200 (€1,200) Main Event. Until the end of the registration period after the dinner break, a field of 433 entries including 111 re-entries emerged to better the 396 entries of 2016 and create the largest WPTDeepStacks field outside of North America.

Fewer than half the field made it to the bagging and tagging at the end of level 11 though, as just 153 hopefuls remain in contention with MAD 20,000 High Roller 9th place finisher Ludovic Moryousef at the top of the counts. Several players were gunning for the overnight spotlight, but Moryousef's set-over-set clash in the third-last hand of the night vaulted the Frenchman to massive 375,000.

Other big stacks and notables through to Day 2 include Belmehel Dja Daouadji (321,500), Spain's Daniel (275,600), Michel Leibgorin (261,000), Emile Carette (253,000), BAUTIST (228,000), Jean Koja (210,800), Tsunamy (188,500), Fadhil Farag (117,000), Fouad Zouiten (110,000), Alexandre Reard (99,500), [Removed:146] (85,000), 2016 November Niner Fernando Pons (77,000) and Aurelie Reard (50,600).

High Roller champion Aleksandras Voisnis (37,000), runner-up [Removed:44] (10,800) and third-place finisher Il Dieko Rati Vale (195,200) also bagged up chips while just one of the four PMU.fr Team Pros advanced in Johan Guilbert (122,700), who was fourth the previous night in the High Roller. Guilbert's team mates Sarah Herzali, Erwann Pecheux and Francois Tosques, as well as approximately half of the online qualifiers were felted.

Romain Lewis became the first casualty of the day when he ran with kings into aces and his subsequent attempts were not crowned by success either. Anas Tadini and Bernard Guigon were sent to the rail several times, while Remi Castaignon, Tom Bedell, Imad Derwiche, Andrew King, Javier Zarco, Omar Lakhdari, Abdelhadi Kondah and Marius Conan were no longer in contention at the end of the night either.

The prize pool information will be released once the cards get back in the air for Day 2 as of noon local time on Saturday October 7th 2017 with level 12 and blinds of 800-1,600 and a running ante of 200. Stay tuned to PokerNews throughout the next two days to find out who will be crowned champion in sunny Marrakech.

Massive Setup Vaults Moryousef to the Top

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

[Removed:445] opened to 2,700 and called the three-bet of Ludovic Moryousef to 8,200 in the small blind. On the flop of {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, Moryousef continued for 12,000 and Haho called before the {K-Hearts} appeared on the turn. Moryousef fired a second barrel worth 22,000 and Haho raised to 60,000 before the Frenchman moved all in.

Haho, who was the only player that covered Moryousef, called after long consideration and had just one out to avoid a massive setback.

Ludovic Moryousef: {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
[Removed:445]: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}

The {9-Spades} fell on the river and Haho was left with fumes, while Moryousef is very likely the chip leader for Day 1.

Haho Shows Eights

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

"Time on table 14 please," the dealer demanded while Ludovic Moryousef in the big blind was still to act. Moryousef had defended his big blind against a raise by [Removed:445] and check-called a bet of 3,000 on the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop. After the {K-Diamonds} turn, Moryousef checked and was in the think tank when facing a bet of 13,100.

Once the floor arrived and confirmed that the clocks will be stopped to draw for the last hands, the player apologized and asked not to ask for time. Moryousef folded moments later while Haho nodded and flashed the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}.

Koja Takes from Conan

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

On the river of a board {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, Artur Conan bet twice the pot for 25,000 and Jean Koja didn't believe him. Once Koja called, Conan flipped over {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for ace-king high and a busted straight draw while Koja won the pot with {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} for a pair of queens.

While Koja has a big stack, he is not near the top of the counts with fewer than half an hour on the clock.

Last PMU.fr Pro Standing

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Erwann Pecheux's elimination has reduced the hopes of the PMU.fr Pro Team to just Johan Guilbert, who currently has an above-average stack. Pecheux lost the remainder of his short stack with {A-Spades}{2-Spades} versus {10-}{8-} after a flopped nut flush was no good against runner runner magic.

Kaspars Butans was all in and at risk for 35,100 with the {J-Clubs}{J-Spades} and his table neighbor from Spain looked him up for most of his stack with {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}. Butans got there thanks to the {J-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop and the {2-Spades} turn and {3-Diamonds} river kept the Latvian in the lead.

Will Davies also scored a double after his {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} ended up scooping the river against the {A-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} of Said El Yousfi - the board came {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.
