El Borsy Stacks One

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

Morocco's very own Ali El Borsy raised with {K-}{Q-} from early position and received two calls. The man from Rabat flopped gin on an {A-}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop and received two calls on his continuation bet.

The turn brought the {7-}. El Borsy bet around three quarters of the pot, one of his opponent shoved for 30,000 with {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and El Borsy called with the current nuts. He faded the hearts on the river to send his opponent to the rail.

Until 2016, barely anyone had heard of French poker player Kalidou Sow, but he has since made the headlines several times and recorded several six-figure scores to boost his live earnings to more than $1.6 million in cashes. Sow, who typically sports funky shades and a big smile on the face at the poker tables, is among the participants on Day 1A here in Marrakech.

Benkirane Building it Up

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante

Amina Benkirane quickly found herself below the starting stack in the early stages but has worked her way up to 50,000 as the dinner break is approaching. After a raise to 1,600 and a call, she also called to see the {5-Clubs}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop appear. Without hesitation, she led out for 4,000 and netted two quick folds.

Luksenberg Can't Escape Rabany

Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante

In one of the first hands after the dinner break, three players saw a turn on a {6-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} board with Pascal Rabany first to act. He checked, as did Tobias Peters. [Removed:226] bet 5,100, Rabany called, and Peters folded after some thought.

The river brought the {A-Diamonds} and Rabany led out for 15,000. Luksenberg swiftly called, but Rabany turned over {K-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a full house, much to Luksenberg's dismay. Luksenberg showed the inferior {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and was left with crumbs.

The hand after, Luksenberg called a raise with {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and called it down during an {A-Spades}{9-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{8-Hearts} rundown. With the rivered straight, Luksenberg near tripled up his short stack.
