In case you haven't heard the Tournament Director's Association has changed some of their rules, including the penalty rule, which will no longer be a timed penalty but will be assessed as "hands away from the table." These rule changes will take effect on March 15th. Yesterday we had a good example of why this change was made.
A player was given a 10 minute penalty and would have been all-in on the BB the very next hand. The players at the table did not like the ruling and simply stalled the 10 minutes away one by one. So effectively the player did not serve a penalty. Under the new rule the player would have been given a 9 hand away from the table penalty (one for each player at the table) and would have been all-in on the next hand.
We are finishing this tournament under the old TDA rules with timed penalties.
