Two Pair Beats One Pair

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Brian Ali limped in from early-middle position before Jesus Cabrera raised to 1,200 from the hijack seat. Scott Clark called from the big blind and Ali also called, sending the three players to the flop.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} and action checked around to see the {K-Diamonds} fall on the turn. Clark led with a bet of 3,300 and Ali called. Cabrera also came along.

The river completed the board with the {6-Clubs} and Clark fired 11,000. Ali called and Cabrera folded.

"One pair," announced Clark without showing. Ali tabled the {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and Clark mucked his hand as he was unable to produce a better holding. Ali scooped the pot and moved to 45,000 in chips.

Respect for Cartwright from Nguyen

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

From the cutoff Kenny Nguyen entered the pot with a raise to 1,100. With the action on Kyle Cartwright next to act, he three-bet to 2,725 to force folds from the blinds and Nguyen.

"Respect once a day!" stated Nguyen to Cartwright.

"I'm going to have it more than once" Cartwright added.

"I have a good hand man. Not good enough to call, but still good. I had king-jack, and if it was suited I'd probably defend!" responded Nguyen as Cartwright stacked his chips.

Poche Punishes Another

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

With a raise to 700 and a call by Jonathon Poche, Brett Schwertley moved all in from the big blind for roughly an additional 7,700. The original raiser passed, but Poche made the call to put Schwertley at risk.

Schwertley: {A-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Poche: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {J-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to see Schwertley's tournament end as Poche moved to 95,000 in chips.

Moore Sends Traylor to the Rail

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Michael Traylor opened the action from middle position to 725. It folded around to Charles Moore in the big blind who reraised to 3,825. Traylor quickly moved all in for 13,975 total. After some thought Moore decided to call and put Traylor at risk. Traylor tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} and was ahead of Moore's {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, but only briefly. The flop was {j-}{q-}{2-}, giving Moore the lead that he wouldn't relinquish. A {2-} on the turn and {4-} on the river were no help to Traylor and he is out of the tournament.

Moore has moved up to about 48,000 chips and is one of the largest stacks in the room.

Poche Soaring Ahead

Scott Lipshutz entered the pot with a raise to 750 only to have Jonathon Poche three-bet the hi-jack to 2,125.

Lipshutz made the call as the {Q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop was spread by the dealer with Poche check-calling a 3,225-chip bet.

As the {8-Spades} landed on the turn, Lipshutz checked and Poche pushed out 6,150 with Lipshutz again smooth-calling as the {K-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Lipshutz checked and Poche fired yet another barrel; this time amounting to 11,250 with Lipshutz swiftly making the call.

Poche tabled his {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} for the nut full house as Lipshutz flashed his {8-Diamonds} and mucked. With that pot, Poche is the clear chip leader of the field with a healthy 83,000 in chips.
