Affleck For the Double

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante
Matt Affleck
Matt Affleck

We've been conspicuously hovering around Matt Affleck and his shortening stack, waiting for something to happen. The minute our back is turned, it does happen, and Affleck was kind enough to fill us in on the details of his first double back.

He went with {A-} {J-} for the ~10,000 he had left, running his ace into an opponent's {Q-} {Q-}. The flop came down {Q-} {9-} {X-} to all but end it, but Affleck ran down a lucky straight on the turn and river to stay alive and double up over 20,000. There's still work to be done, but it's a good first step.

Queen Looking For One

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

T.J. Cloutier opened with a button raise, and Alexander Queen three-bet shoved for about 17,000. Cloutier called, and Queen was racing for his tournament life. He turned up {A-} {Q-}, a slight dog to Cloutier's {6-Hearts} {6-Spades}.

The board ran out blanks, coming {2-Clubs} {2-Spades} {10-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}. Queen has been eliminated, while his chips move Cloutier's stack up to about 49,000.

Astrolux Burns Out

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

In middle position, Curt Kohlberg opened to 1,400, and Brent "Astrolux85" Roberts three-bet him to 3,800 next door. Over on the button, Chris Klodnicki four-bet to 6,800 total, and that folded Kohlberg without incident. Roberts, however, was considering a big decision. He only had about 22,000 to start the hand, and he tanked for at least four or five minutes before plunking his stack all in. Klodnicki instantly called with the covering stack. And the aces:

Roberts: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}
Klodnicki: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}

Roberts was already standing as the flop came {5-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {5-Spades}, and the {6-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river have ended his day early.
