An unbelievable turn of events has transpired here at Harrah's Tunica. Just ninety minutes ago Kurt Jewell, winner of the Main Event at the WSOPC Hammond, held nearly half the chips in play with over 4.7 million. He has now been eliminated from the tournament in eighth place.
It all began when Jewell doubled a few short stacks and cut his big stack in half. Recently became involved in a hand where Mary Harden raised to 150,000 from early position and Jewell called from middle position. It was heads up to the 
flop and Harden bet 350,000. Jewell called as the dealer burned and turned the 
. This time Harden bet 325,000 and again Jewell called. When the peeled off on the river, Harden moved all in for 705,000. Jewell tanked before making the call and then mucked when Harden flipped 
. Harden doubled to 3.1 million while Jewell was left with just 670,000.
On the very next hand, Jewell moved all in holding 
and was called by Sam Barnhart, who held 
. The board ran out 
and Jewell's epic downfall was complete. He was eliminated from the tournament in eighth place.
Brian Burney has been busy working his short stack. Recently he moved all in from the cutoff for 370,000. Blinds fold, Burney wins.
Next hand, Burney moved all in for 470,000 from the hijack. Blinds fold, Burney wins. He is now up to 570,000.
We've had six consecutive hands where a preflop raise has taken down the blinds and antes.
Kurt Jewell opened to 95,000 from the cutoff and John Nguyen shoved from the small blind for roughly 850,000. Jewell folded immediately and Nguyen took the pot.
Jewell slipped to about 2,400,000.
Action has slowed considerably as of late. Small preflop raises seem to be enough to take down the pots, but it is only a matter of time before two hands run into one another.
Mary Harden raised to 120,000 under the gun and action folded to Preston Derden on the button. He shoved for 420,000 total, forcing folds from the blinds. Harden thought it over, but threw her hand way and surrendered the pot to Derden.
Derden showed and is up to 640,000.
Sam Barnhart moved all in under the gun for 425,000 holding 
and was called by Kurt Jewell, who held 
in the big blind. It was another race, one that saw Jewell stay ahead on the 
flop. The 
on the turn gave Jewell two pair and left Barnhart drawing to an ace, king, or six on the river. Sure enough, it was the 
and Barnhart counterfeited Jewell's two pair to double to 910,000. Jewell is down to 3.3 million.
