Engel Done and Dusted

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Ari Engel's day has come to an end. He raised preflop to 4,500 only to have Aaron Massey make it 13,000 to go. Engel hit the tank before pushing all in and Massey made the call:

Engel: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Massey: {10-}{10-}

The {10-}{5-}{2-} flop was disaster for Engel and the {5-} turn sealed his fate. A {K-} was put out on the river for good measure as Engel exited the tournament area. Massey is up to 147,000.

Phillips Cracks 200K

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips

Action folded to Dennis Phillips in middle position and he raised to 5,200. The big blind was the only player to call and the pair watched the flop fall {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Spades}. From there, the big blind checked, Phillips bet 11,500, and the big blind check-raised all in for 32,400.

"Let me check," Phillips said as he counted out the chips. "I'm pretty sure I'm going to call." Sure enough, that is exactly what he did.

Phillips: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}

Phillips was in great shape to eliminate his opponent but still needed to dodge an ace or jack on the remaining streets. The {8-Spades} turn changed nothing, and neither did the {2-Diamonds} river. Phillips sent his opponent to the rail while chipping up to 210,000.

Drummond Done

Level 15 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

As we were writing the previous post, we saw Hugh Jordan Drummond rise from his seat, congratulate his opponent, and exit the tournament area with his father, who promptly handed him a consolation beer. Unfortunately for Drummond, who may very well emerge as the Harrah's St. Louis Casino Champion, his amazing run has come to an end . . . unless of course he enters the last ring event on Monday.

Souza Flips for Tournament Life

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mike Souza
Mike Souza

An unknown player opened preflop holding {J-}{J-} only to have Mike Souza move all in for his remaining chips with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. The original raiser made the call and it was a coinflip.

The {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop was no help to Souza and neither was the {7-Clubs} turn. In order to survive, Souza needed a king or ace on the river. Unfortunately for him, it came the {9-Spades} and his run at the WSOP-Circuit Harrah's Tunica Main Event title came to an end.

Nguyen Won't Win

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The always entertaining and aggressive Kenny Nguyen, who had managed to build a decent stack earlier in the day, has followed Ben Smith out the door. On the other hand, we just found young Kyle Cartwright in the field. If you recall, Cartwright won two rings at the WSOP-Circuit Harrah's Tunica stop to become the Casino Champion and win his way into the National Championship.
