Aces Carry Crane

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Just had a big three-way preflop all-in involving Russell Crane and two opponents. We caught the action after the money had gone in, creating a pot of close to 60,000.

Crane was in a good spot with {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} versus a middle position player's {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and the big blind's {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. The community cards cooperated with Crane's hand, coming {10-Spades}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Spades}{3-Spades} and sending one player to the rail, leaving another with just 2,000, and nearly tripling up Crane.

Is it Destiny?

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Early we explored Andy Santiago and his proclamation that he is going to win this tournament. After seeing this hand you might become a believer.

A short-stacked player moved all in for 4,100 from middle position and another shorty re-shoved for 7,150 behind him. The action folded to Santiago in the big blind who quickly called, putting both players at risk.

Shorty 1: {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Shorty 2: {k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Santiago: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

The {j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Hearts} flop didn't change much, but the {6-Diamonds} on the turn gave Santiago a flush draw and both Santiago and the other opponent with five-four a gut-shot straight draw.

Amazingly the {7-Diamonds} spiked on the river, giving Santiago a winning flush and knocking both players out of the tournament. Santiago is back among our chip leaders with 90,000 chips in front of him.

Chips for Chaplin

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

A player in early position raised to 1,200, and Joe Chaplin, sitting to his left, called. Chaplin had been nursing a short stack for some time this afternoon, though by the start of this hand had built back close to his starting stack of 20,000.

Two more players -- the button and big blind -- also called, then all four checked the {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{J-Hearts} flop. The turn was the {K-Diamonds}, pairing the board. It checked to the preflop raiser who bet 2,250, and only Chaplin called.

The river brought the {6-Hearts} and a second pair among the community cards, and Chaplin's opponent tapped the table to check. Chaplin carved out a bet of 4,500, sending his opponent into the tank for some time before he finally let his hand go.

Chaplin is back up to 28,000.

"Busted in marginal spot, back to school now, ready for wsop tho."

See you in Vegas, Eric.

Shak Raises?

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

A player opened to 1,500 from under the gun, a second player called in middle position and Beth Shak defended her small blind. The flop fell {k-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and both Shak and the original raiser checked to the man in the middle who fired 2,200. Shak called, the initial raiser released and the turn was the {5-Diamonds}.

Shak again checked and her opponent bet 5,500. Shak reached for two grey T5,000 chips and silently flipped them in the middle. Her opponent was confused because the bet was not enough to be a raise and argued that it should be a call. The dealer did nothing to rectify the situation and Shak shrugged, pulled back one of the chips and was contempt with just calling.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and Shak immediately moved all in. Her opponent folded even faster and Shak was pushed the pot.

Pham Folds, Holds Onto to Leading Stack

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

Edward Pham has steadily risen up the counts during the first five-and-half hours of play to be one of the first to push past the 70,000-chip mark.

Just now Pham opened a pot with a minimum-raise to 1,000, getting two callers from the button and small blind. The flop came a highly-coordinated {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. It checked to Pham who continued with a bet of 1,800, and only the button stuck around. The turn was the {Q-Clubs}, and Pham paused before checking over to his opponent. A bet of 3,200 was enough to cause Pham to release his hand with a yawn.

Nothing tired about what Pham has done thus far, however, as he remains among the chip leaders with about 72,000.

Small Hit to Shak's Stack

Level 8 : 250/500, 50 ante

A short-stacked player sitting under the gun open-raised all in for 5,975, and the table folded around to Beth Shak in the cutoff. Shak removed her headphones, contemplated a few moments, then announced she was calling. It folded back around and the pair tabled their hands.

Shak showed {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and her opponent {J-Spades}{10-Spades}. Early advantage Shak. She remained ahead after the {7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop and {8-Spades} turn. The dealer then burned one and turned over the river -- the {J-Hearts} -- pairing Shak's opponent and ensuring his survival.

Shak now has about 28,000.
