Words with Monkey

Level 7 : 200/400, 50 ante

A lot of players do things to pass the time at the table, and one of the more popular options is Words With Friends. We recently passed by Will "Monkey" Souther's table and noticed he was fixed on his iPad. We didn't see them all, but here is a small sample of the words we noticed:

Paid
Overt
Pimp
Jet
Grown
Here
War
Fume

The last word there has often described Souther's temperament in the past, but we must admit that he has behaved like a gentleman the last few times we've seen him on the Circuit.

Brown Sends One Downtown

With 2,800 in the pot and a board reading {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{A-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, Chad Brown bet 2,500 into his single opponent, who happened to be in the cutoff. Instead of making the call, the cutoff opted for a raise to 7,000, leaving himself just 2,625 behind.

Brown looked over at his opponent's stack and nonchalantly said, "I'm gonna put you all in."

"Call," the cutoff snapped and tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}. Brown then revealed {5-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for a flopped set and the win. Brown is up to 40,000.

Verrett Gives It Up

We stumbled upon Steve Verrett's table with about 4,500 in the pot and a board reading {10-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Verrett had fired out a bet of 3,200, and his opponent in the cutoff made the call, leading to the {K-Diamonds} on the river. This time Verrett checked, the cutoff bet 5,600, and Verrett hit the tank.

Eventually he came out, flashed the {A-Spades}, and conceded the hand, dropping to 27,500 in the process.

Day From Hell on Table 33

Will "Monkey" Souther opened to 750 from early position and watched as three of his opponents came along for the ride. "Be sure to tell your readers it's the day from hell on Table 33," Souther said, referring to his dwindling stack. Things didn't get any better for Souther either as he ended up check-folding the {6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{K-Hearts} flop to a 1,600 bet.

Monkey is down to 7,400.

The Wrong Toole for the Job

Jake Toole raised to 700 from early position and found two callers in a middle-position player and the cutoff. The button then came in with a three-bet to 2,350, which only Toole called. Both players proceeded to check it down as the board ran out {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{J-Spades}.

At this point the button flipped over {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}, while Toole doubled checked his cards and then sent them to the muck. Toole is holding steady around the starting stack of 20,000.
