After a player in middle position limped, David Williams followed suit from the cutoff. Jamie Gold had possession of the button and raised to 300 which drew calls from the player in the small blind and Williams.
The flop was checked through. The hit the turn and the player first to act fired 550. Both Williams and Gold called. The river was the and within a few seconds everyone had checked once more.
"Jack-high" the player in the small blind said defeated. Jamie Gold turned over but it could not beat the of Williams who had made a straight.
So far in our first walkthrough we spotted a handful of players that busted out yesterday, including Eric Baldwin and Steve Gross. We also noticed one intriguing table assignment, with two guys who know what the WSOP main event final table feels like. In the eight seat, we have David Williams, who finished runner up in the 2004 Main Event. To his direct left, in seat 9, is 2006 Champion Jamie Gold! We will be sure to keep tabs on how that matchup of stars goes.
Yesterday, 308 players came out to play the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event at Caesers Palace in Las Vegas. Only 58 players advanced through to Day 2, but each of the eliminated competitors will have an opportunity to re-enter today's field and take another shot at winning a ring.
Joe Tehan, David Williams, Steve Gross, Eric Baldwin, Russell Rosenblum, Ted Lawson, Justin Young, Sam Barnhart, David "Bakes" Baker and Tom Marchese were just some of the well-known names that came out yesterday and did not advance. We are expecting today's field to be equally impressive in both size and skill.
However, we already know that it won't be easy for those that do advance. Waiting for today's Day 2 qualifiers are William Reynolds, Dan O'Brien, James Carroll, Chip Jett, Sean Getzwiller, Gavin Griffin, and others, all of whom will not need to exercise the use of that second bullet. Joe Kuether is the man everyone is chasing, having bagged up 380,500 in chips.
The plan today is to play 15 levels before we combine fields tomorrow and eventually crown a champion on Monday. Action is set to kick off in about an hour at noon local time so don't go anywhere.
