Day 1a is Complete
It has been a wild Day 1a of the World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event here in Caesers Palace, Las Vegas, but it has finally come to a close. We saw an exceptional turn out of amateurs and pro’s alike having had 308 people fork over the $1,600 entry fee. Only 58 players remain though and Joe Kuether leads the way with 380,500. Not far behind is Jonas Mackoff with 355,000 chips.
One of the day’s most interesting competitors was Giorgio Medici. Shortly before the end of level 9, Medici sat with just 16,000. By the end of level 11 he had 360,000 and was far and away our chip leader at the time. That stack was preserved when he three-bet with 
but was up against and 
. The case ace hit the flop but Medici had already gotten out of the way after raises by both of his opponents. Maybe he should have taken it at a sign because the hot streak didn’t last long after that.
Kuether amassed his lead in a massive pot against Medici. Each held about 190,000 in chips when Kuether got his 
all in preflop against the 
of Medici. The 
board was scary, but ultimately harmless. Medici was crippled and busted shortly after while Kuether held his new found chip lead through the end of the day.
There is something to be said for the not so fortunate because many of the players that hit the rail today were among the best in the world. Eric Baldwin, Steve “Gboro780” Gross, David Williams, Justin Smith, Sam Barnhart, Tom Marchase, Scott Clements, Joe Tehan, David “Bakes” Baker and Ted Lawson all went down earlier than planned. It is worth noting though that we may see one or all of the aforementioned players tomorrow for Day 1b, as this is a one-time re-entry tournament.
Some of the notables that we will see on Sunday include Gavin Griffin, James Carroll, Chip Jett, William Reynolds, Dan O’Brien, Sean Getzwiller, and Allen Carter.
Tomorrow we will do it all again from the beginning for Day 1b. We will start with a brand new field and play another 15 levels to complete our Day 2 flight. If the action is as fast paced tomorrow as it was today, you won’t want to miss anything. The cards are back in the air at 12 P.M.
