Kirk Back to His Winning Ways

Tripp Kirk rejoining the top of the counts.
Tripp Kirk rejoining the top of the counts.

We missed the action on the hand but it was impossible to ignore the results. We found Tripp Kirk being shipped a mountain of chips from Steven Graham. The players at the table helped us fill in the blanks.

The board was {J-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {2-Hearts} and all the money went in on the turn. Graham held {A-} {J-} and Kirk had {4-Spades} {4-Clubs} for a set.

Kuether More Than Doubles

We're not sure of the action, but Joe Kuether got his satck of 110,000 all in preflop holding {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and was at risk against Scott Clements' {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. There was also a short-stacked player all in with the dominated {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

The board ran out an uninspiring {6-Spades}{2-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and Kuether more than doubled on the hand; meanwhile, Clements was left with about half the average stack.

Tepen Pulling Away; Closes in on a Million

A preflop raising war between Ryan Tepen and Roger Campbell resulted in the latter being all in for approximately 300K, creating a pot of around 600K.

Showdown

Campbell{A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Tepen{K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The {10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop gave Campbell a pair of queens, but he still needed help. The {A-Clubs} turn was just what he had in mind, giving him two pair and the lead. The table was shocked, but not as much as they were when the {K-Diamonds} spiked on the river to give Tepen a set and the win. Campbell couldn't believe it as he made his way to the payout desk in 60th place; meanwhile, Tepen's stack grew to 993,500.

Conrad Comes From Behind to Eliminate Mauer

After Randy Shearer became the first elimination in the money, finishing in 63rd place for $2,974, a hand developed over on Table 37. It began when Chris Conrad opened from the under-the-gun position only to have Scott Mauer move all in from the cutoff. Conrad made the call and was in bad shape.

Showdown

Mauer{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}
Conrad{6-Clubs}{6-Spades}

The {9-}{8-}{7-} flop gave Mauer top set, but it also delivered Conrad an open-ended straight draw. Wouldn't you know it, that draw was completed when a {10-} spiked on the turn. The {3-} river failed to pair the board an Mauer became our 62nd-place finisher and will take home $2,974 for his efforts.

We're in the Money

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

After Kyle Cartwright's elimination, the tournament staff paused the action to do a headcount. What did they discover? That there are 63 players remaining, which means we're already in the money. We're not sure if Cartwright was the exact bubble boy or if another elimination occurred at the same time, but whatever the case, the remaining players are all guaranteed $2,974.

Cartwright Eliminated; No Repeat

Kyle Cartwright and Terry Stuhldreher got their stacks all in preflop. Cartwright was just a bit shorter than Stuhldreher.

Cartwright: {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}
Stuhldreher: {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}

The board ran {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {A-Spades} and Stuhldreher stole the pot away from Cartwright with a page out of Barry Greenstein's book.

Cartwright was making run after starting the day with only a 20 big blind stack and was hoping to defend his title.
