Look Ma, A Huge Hand!

Well, that was the biggest pot we've seen today. And thanks to Will Souther for drawing our attention to it.

Under the gun, James Mordue opened the action with a raise, and Stephen Ma three-bet around the table on the button. Action came to Kevin Saul's big blind, and he liked what he saw. Coming in from the cold, he four-bet shoved with his chip-leading stack of more than 400,000. That folded Mordue without incident, but Ma snap-called his last 200,500 to put a monster pot up for grabs. Saul knew he was in trouble.

Showdown
Ma: {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}
Saul: {K-} {Q-}

The {2-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {A-Spades} flop all but ended things right there, and the {9-Hearts} turn left Saul drawing dead before the {J-Diamonds} river. When he paid off his debt, he was reduced to about 220,000. Ma's on about twice that now, doubling his way into the chip lead with a set of aces.

Bubblicious

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We're sitting on 31 players right now, and things have gotten tense. The money arrives at 30, so we're on the direct bubble with nothing but a wooden spoon to be earned by the next player eliminated.

We're dealing hand-for-hand until we burst the bubble.

Saul Slides Further

We missed the preflop amounts, but we did catch Kevin Saul opening and Jim Devaney three-betting from the small blind.

Our focus turned to the table as the dealer spread out a {10-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {9-Diamonds} flop, and Devaney continued out with 30,000. Saul quickly flatted that bet, and they both checked through the {7-Hearts} turn. The river came the {J-Hearts}, and Devaney checked a second time. When he did, Saul took his cue to bet 40,000. Devaney called instantly.

"You got it," Saul said quietly.

Devaney tabled his {A-Spades} {9-Hearts} to take the pot, and he's pushed Saul back down under the chip average for the first time today. With that pot, he's put himself among the chip leaders, sitting now with about 330,000 in front of him.

Cavanaugh Keeps it Slow

Scott Stanko opened to 13,000 in the hijack seat, and Chris Conrad three-bet to 29,000 right next door. On the button, Casey Cavanaugh flatted that reraise, and Stanko decided the price he was getting wasn't good enough to stick around. He folded, and it was heads-up to the flop.

It came {8-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}, and Cavanaugh called another 27,500 from Conrad. They both checked through the {7-Spades} turn. The {Q-Diamonds} landed on the river, and Conrad needed to bet again. He stacked up 53,000 into the pot. Cavanaugh spent just about 15 seconds making sure, then slid the call into the middle.

Conrad mumbled something quietly as he held his cards in his hands. Cavanaugh went ahead and opened up his {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, and kings up earn him that nice pot.

Contreras Bubbles; Masek Sneaks In

Alexandru Masek
Alexandru Masek

Leonel Contreras came into this Day 2 with a top-five stack, and he parlayed that into a deep run. Unfortunately, that deep run came up just one spot shy of a cash.

In his final hand, Contreras was all in for 2,500 from the small blind, and Mark Bonsack limped into the pot from across the table. Alexandru Masek made a raise to 18,500 from the button, and Bonsack called the extra to see a flop.

It came out {K-Hearts} {3-Clubs} {5-Hearts}, and it was quite the action flop. Bonsack checked, but he was thinking sinister thoughts. When Masek bet 24,500, he quickly check-raised all in. Masek shrugged and called with his {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} drawing at the flush. Bonsack had flopped a set with {3-Spades} {3-Diamonds}. And Contreras was essentially drawing dead with {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts}. Masek needed to catch up in a hurry, too.

The turn {2-Spades} and river {7-Clubs} were blanks, though, and Bonsack has sent two players off with one swing of his hammer. Masek will take 30th place by virtue of his bigger stack, and that means Contreras is the lone bubble boy and the last man to go home empty-handed.

The remaining 29 players are now guaranteed at least $2,861 like Masek.

Dinner Plans

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We thought we might let you know that the dinner break will coincide with the end of this level. That's just about ten minutes from now, and it'll be a one-hour break.

Now you know.

Saul Falls

It's been a quick, hard fall for Kevin Saul here this evening. He was sitting pretty with the chip lead of 435,000 about 90 minutes ago, but he's burned through that and right out the door.

In his last stand, Saul got just about 100,000 into the middle preflop with {8-} {8-}, and he was flipping for the double against Jim Devaney's {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}.

There was an ace on the flop and another one on the river, and the {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {A-Spades} board was no good for Saul. He did find a straight draw on the turn, but it missed, and his day is done.

Devaney is now the chip daddy with just shy of a half-million chips.

The field is down to 27 players, and we're in the middle of a full redraw.
