Marshak Eliminated With Aces on the Bubble

Getting pocket aces is one of the best feelings in poker, but as many players will attest, it can also be your biggest nightmare. Unfortunately for Stuart Marshak, he knows that all too well right now, as he has just been eliminated on the bubble with pocket rockets.

The action started with the big stack at the table, David Singontiko, raising it to 12,000 under the gun. The next player to act called, and action folded around to Marshak in the small blind, who reraised it to 37,000. Singontiko took little time in announcing all in, leading to a fold from the other player. Marshak immediately flipped his hand over and announced "call".

Marshak: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}
Singontiko: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Action was paused so that everyone else could finish up their play, so the players had to wait about 20 seconds for their fate. As they waited , another player at the table said "I folded queen six." This statement only made it worse for marshak when the flop came a disasterous {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Marshak would would now need one of the two remaining aces to survive. He wouldn't get it on the turn, the {k-Diamonds}, or the river, the {10-Hearts}.

The win catapulted Singontiko to the top of the leader board, as he is now sitting on 650,000, good enough for second by our counts, while Marshak is left being the bubble boy The remaining 54 players are now guaranteed $3,065.

Zhao Eliminated in Huge Hand with Franks

Susie Zhao went from the outhouse to the penthouse.
Susie Zhao went from the outhouse to the penthouse.

We were across the room preparing for hand-for-hand play when the hand took place and we've gathered the details the best we could from the table.

Julie Franks opened for 12,000 and Susie Zhao called. The flop came {A-} {10-} {9-} rainbow, Zhao checked and Franks bet 16,000. Zhoa called and the turn produced a {Q-}. Zhao checked, Franks bet 24,000, Zhao raised to 55,000 and Franks raised to 155,000. Zhao moved all in and Franks called.

Franks: {K-} {J-}
Zhao: {J-} {8-}

Zhao was stuck with the low end of the straight and Franks made Broadway and took the 750,000+ pot. After spending nearly all day at the top of the leaderboard Zhao is out and Franks is far and away the chipleader.

Brecher Refusing to Show

Level 18 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
"You don't get to see my cards!"
"You don't get to see my cards!"

When Steve Brecher returned from dinner break he found out that his table was the one designated to be moved to the feature table. The "Live at the Bike" table uses an RFID system to stream hole cards rather than actual cameras. Brecher has refused to "show" his cards to the sensor in fear that his opponents would gain an unfair advantage this close to the money bubble.

He is the first player today to refuse to show his cards and each table has only spent one level at the feature table before another one is moved in.

"Once a Year I Make this Laydown"

We found our way over to the feature table and a giant hand was unfolding between Freddy Deeb and Mike Anderson. The board showed {5-Hearts} {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} and Deeb bet 50,000. Anderson quickly came over the top and shoved all in.

Anderson's shove sent Deeb deep into the tank. Deeb counted out a call, counted what he would have left and leaned back in his chair. "You getting tired, ready to go?" Deeb pressed.

With no response Deeb said, "Once a year I make this laydown. This might be it." After a few more moments of thought Deeb folded face up, showing {K-Spades} {6-Clubs}.

Anderson, looking very relieved, showed {A-} {Q-} and took the pot.

"It's ok, I made a good laydown. A five was coming on the river," Deeb said to us with a wink.
