Masters Makes His Hand On the River, Doubles Big

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Thomas Sheets started raised it up to 26,000 in early position, and Gregory Masters was the lone caller in the small blind. The dealer fanned out a flop of {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, and Masters checked to Sheets, who fired out 23,000. After a few moments of thought, Masters assembled a check raise of 80,000, and slid it into the middle.

It was back on Sheets, and he deliberate for about a minute before tossing in the call. The {k-Hearts} on the turn was either going to be an action killer, or was going to set off fireworks. Fortunately for the fans, it was the latter. Masters shoved all in for his last 184,000 after a few moments of thought, and Sheets went deep into the tank. After at least two minutes of thought, Sheets said "S**t I'm in a tough spot here sorry guys." After another minute or so, he emerged with the call.

Masters: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Sheets: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

I told you the turn was going to set off fireworks. Sheets made a great call with his two pair, but he would still have to fade the flush and straight draw outs of Masters. The flush didn't come, but the {9-Diamonds} did. Masters quietly clapped his hands, though a bigger celebration would have been allowed, as he jumped all the way up to 575,000. On the other end, Sheets went down to 340,000 after the hand.

Jordan Turoff Eliminated in 26th Place ($5,427)

Level 23 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Dennis Thurman started the action by raising under the gun. It folded around to Jordan Turoff in middle position, and he shoved his last 66,000 into the middle. Action folded back around to Thurman, and he quickly made the call.

Turoff: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Thurman: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Turoff was already well behind, and he was nearly drawing dead when the flop came down {3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{k-Spades}. Turoff could only catch runner runner to survive, but the {6-Hearts} on the turn didn't provide any assistance, and the useless river was the {4-Diamonds}.

After that hand, Thurman is up to 485,000.

Matt Glantz Eliminated in 27th Place ($5,427)

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Matt Glantz had nursed a short stack for the last couple of hours, making it all of the way to the final three tables. Finally his run has ended, however, after committing the last of his 100,000 or so with {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and finding himself up against Sai Wang's {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The flop came {7-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} to pair Wang's ten, although Glantz still had hopes of a spade flush. But the turn was the {9-Hearts} and river the {9-Diamonds}, and Glantz wished his opponents good luck before departing.

Acosta Out; 27 Remain

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

After Thomas Sheets raised, Jason Acosta pushed his short stack all in and it folded back to Sheets who called. Acosta had {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, but was already standing up when he saw Sheets's {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

The board came {9-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, and Acosta is out. With 27 left, they are now redrawing for the final three tables.

Ashkenazi Scores Huge Double Through Michalek

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

We arrived at the table at the end of a preflop raising war between Ido Ashkenazi and Norman Michalek that saw all of Ashkenazi 346,000 go into the middle. Michalek held {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}, but Ashkenazi held the rockets, {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. The board brought a couple paint cards, but it was all safe for Ashkenazi, coming down {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{j-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

After that hand, Ashkenazi vaults towards the top of the leaderboard with 718,000, while Michalek is back down to 530,000.

Halter Halted in 29th

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

After an opening raise from early position from Dennis Thurman, Patrick Halter reraised all in from a few seats over and when it folded back around Thurman called.

Thurman: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Halter: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}

Halter's hand looked best before the flop, but when the community cards brought a clutch of hearts — {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{J-Hearts} — the heart in Thurman's hand meant he had the best hand after with a flush draw. Halter wished his table mates good luck and headed to the cashier's desk.

Nines Have Been Good to Panitch

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Earlier in the day, we reported on a hand where Panitch flopped a set of nines, rivered a full house, and took down a huge pot. Well Panitch has just won another huge pot, catching the same set of nines on the flop.

Action started with Jose Montes raising it up to 22,000 in the hijack. Panitch three bet it to 60,000 in the cutoff, and the rest of the players folded. Montes came along for the ride, and both players checked a flop of {4-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}. When the {5-Diamonds} hit the turn, Montes grabbed his chips, and started sliding them forward. Panitch announced call before Montes could even finish moving his chips forward, and it was pretty clear that the trap had sprung.

Panitch: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Montes: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Montes was actually drawing dead on the flop, and when he saw the cards, he stood out of his chair and starting wishing the players good luck. The meaningless river was the {k-Clubs}, and after that hand, Panitch jumps up to 750,000.

Acosta Doubles Through Morgan

Level 22 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Jason Acosta was just all in and at risk for his last 125,000 with {K-Spades}{K-Hearts} versus Raymond Morgan's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}. The board came a safe {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{7-Clubs} for Acosta, though, and he survived with a double-up.

"I want to count this pot," he joked as he collected the chips, alluding to a bit of discussion that came earlier in the evening.
