Day 1b Completed
The second and final starting day of the 2017 World Series of Poker International Circuit €1,650 Main Event at the King's Casino in Rozvadov saw a far bigger field emerge in Europe's biggest poker arena. After 12 levels of 45 minutes each, the tournament screens showed 448 entries, which boosts the total field to 646 entries.
Only 186 players bagged up chips and it was local player Pavel Stolar that jumped into the overall lead with 228,600, edging past Artan Dedusha who claimed 223,100. Vazha Kometiani, who is third in Georgia's all-time money list, seems to be the third biggest stack after Day 1b with 190,600 while further big stacks include Roberto Manfredi (187,000), Arturs Scerbaks (183,000), Vlad Darie (182,100), Maxim Lykov (176,600), Rifat Gegic (176,200) and Tomas Fara (170,600).
Jan Timo Jobmann already recorded seven cashes in Rozvadov this year, and he added a WSOP Circuit Ring in the €666 NLHE Event and a third place finish in the €420 Bounty Event to his poker resume. Jobmann finished Day 1b with very respectable 143,000 in chips. Other notables that made it through to Day 2 were Sander van Wesemael (126,700), Philipp Zukernik (118,400),Pedro Lamarca (95,700), Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (93,500) and Jeff Lisandro (53,200). Felipe Ramos, who already finished second in two tournaments during the festival including the €5,300 High Roller, was among the big names that didn't bag up.
The day started with a bang by Liang Feng, as the Chinese and Prague resident clashed with Ondrej Drozd in the first level of the day when the duo got it in preflop for almost 600 big blinds each with kings versus queens. Feng flopped best with top set, Drozd turned a straight and Feng rivered quads kings to spike an early double. Fabrice Halleux, who finished fourth in the €5,300 High Roller, was among the early casualties as well after running into the set of Luigi Micu, and the Belgian also busted on his second bullet.
Ivo Donev's rise to the top came just before the dinner break when the Austrian flopped top set against bottom set and an overpair to bust two opponents. Donev eventually settled for 100,000, which is still well above average for the start of Day 2. Pierre Neuville ran with jacks into the aces of Andrej Cintula and was not spotted for another attempt after that anymore, while Gregor Greko was among those that fired two bullets and ran out of chips as many times. Greko flopped top two pair and Tomas Fara held middle set to send the German to the rail.
Things heated up towards the end of the day and Artan Dedusha seemed poised to claim the overnight spotlight before losing some chips after trading two big pots with Sandro Pitzanti during the last hands of the night. Pavel Stolar's flopped set and rivered full house to bust Timur Caglan in a big pot vaulted the Czech into the lead, however and both were separated by a mere three big blinds when they bagged up.
More than 250 players will return for Day 2 as of 2 p.m. local time on Sunday, October 15th and at least 10 levels of 60 minutes each are scheduled for the penultimate tournament day. Action resumes with blinds of 800-1,600 and a running ante of 200, and the registration will close once the cards are back in the air. The tournament is well short of the 851 entries - including 114 re-entries - of the previous year, but the guarantee of €1,000,000 has almost been covered.
The PokerNews live reporting team will provide all the action from the floor until a winner is crowned, so make sure to tune back in regularly to find out who lifts the trophy here at King's Casino in Rozvadov.
