Carey Slowly Building a Top Stack

Level 24 : 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Maurice Hawkins opened to 65,000 from the button and Justin Carey defended his big blind. The dealer spread out {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} on the flop, Carey checked to Hawkins who bet 65,000 and Hawkins called.

The turn came down an {8-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {k-Diamonds} river card. Carey pushed in 180,000 and Hawkins quickly called, tabling {a-Clubs}{2-Spades} for a pair of aces. Carey turned over {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} for two pair and more than enough to take down the pot from Hawkins.

Naichang Chen moved all in for about 450,000 from middle position and Maurice Hawkins shoved over the top in the hijack. Everyone else released and the two turned over their hands.

Chen turned over a pair of jacks and was in a bad spot as Hawkins tabled a higher pair of kings. The boar ran out with no help to Chen as he fell victim to the 13-time ring winner late in the day, taking an exit in 13th place.

Gordon Wilcox

Gregory Nerenberg opened to 60,000 from under the gun, Gordon Wilcox moved all in for 470,000 on the button and Nerenberg snap-called.

Gordon Wilcox: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Gregory Nerenberg: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

The flop came down {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Nerenberg was still in the lead but Wilcox picked up some outs. A {j-Spades} landed on the river, giving Nerenberg broadway and Wilcox was now drawing to only a split pot.

The {2-Hearts} river card changed nothing and Nerenberg took down the pot, eliminating the defending champion from the tournament.
