The $1,700 Main Event is just one of a dozen gold ring events taking place at the Harrah’s Cherokee stop. For over a week, players have been competing for WSOP Circuit hardware and big chunks of prize money.

In Event #4: $600 No-Limit Hold’em, 442 entrants created a $227,630 prize pool and saw 33-year-old Kernersville, North Carolina poker player Zachary Caldwell breakthrough to capture his first gold ring and a $46,669 first-place prize.

To do so he had to defeat accomplished poker pro Dylan Wilkerson in heads-up play.

“I told my wife yesterday that I was going to win it for her,” said the father of two young children. “I felt good, I felt like it was just meant to be.”

He continued: “I had this thought in my head throughout the tournament, it doesn’t matter what happens, I am the luckiest man in the room. I have a beautiful wife, two beautiful baby girls, if I win or I come in 442nd it’s not going to change my life. I’m happy I won but it doesn’t change anything.”

Joseph Out-Flops Waters

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Three players were still in the hand with the board reading {9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts} and around 5,000 in the middle. Jason Waters led out for 3,400 in early position and Johanssy Joseph called on the button.

The river was the {2-Clubs} and Waters checked this time. Joseph fired out a bet of 6,400 and Waters thought for a minute before making the call. Joseph flipped over {9-Spades}{9-Clubs} for a full house and Waters flashed {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} before they hit the muck.

Yancey Gets Unexpected Value

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Edwin Yancey made a bet of about 4,000 on the river of a board reading {4-}{8-}{4-}{10-}{k-}.

Stephen Nussrallah thought a moment before calling.

Yancey said "you got it" and turned over his {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} but Nusrallah did not actually have it as he mucked his cards.

Yancey commented that he thought he was beat once he got called as he pulled in the chips.

Pemberton Makes Meaty Bet

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Brian Pemberton made a river bet of 15,000 on a board that read {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}.

His opponent hemmed and hawed for several moments before folding reluctantly.

It was the correct fold as Pemberton showed the {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} after the fold and his opponent claimed to have folded a set.

Sheaves Recovers Some Chips

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

After a tough start in the opening couple levels of the day, Warren Sheaves saw nearly a third of a stack disappear already. Three players headed to a flop of {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and the action checked to the button who bet 500. Sheaves called from the small blind along with the hijack.

The {10-Hearts} paired the board on the turn and the action checked around to the {k-Clubs} on the river. Sheaves led out for 1,600 and only the button called. Sheaves showed {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a straight while his opponent rivered a pair with {k-Spades}{j-Spades}. It could be a turning point for Sheaves as he picked up his first pot of the day.
