Bryant Leads as 39 Advance From Day 1b of the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit Potawatomi Main Event

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Jill Bryant

The second of two opening flights of the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit Potawatomi $1,700 Main Event drew 255 total entrants, with 39 surviving to come back for Day 2 action. The 31 survivors from Day 1a will combine with the 39 from today, giving us a combined field of 70 players returning tomorrow, with 68 slated to get paid.

At the end of today's play, it was Jill Bryant walking home with the chip lead, bagging 376,000. That is well behind the 624,000 chip stack that Day 1a chip leader Sohale Khalili managed to bag, but still represents a strong stack going into Day 2. Bryant surged into contention early, hovering near or at the chip lead all day long. She just barely clipped Quinterol Mallette (362,000) for the lead, while Michael Esquivel (335,000), Alex Ziskin (334,000), and Michael Perrone (324,000) all lurk just behind as the rest of the Top 5 from today's flight.

Other notables able to survive through to Sunday's Day 2 are James Pupillo (320,000), who closed out his night with quads and quotes, Cody Brinn (183,000), Travis Lauson (174,000), and Daniel Sepiol (128,000).

Of course, not everyone that entered today's flight was able to make their way through the field, and some of those unable to find a bag include Aaron and Ralph Massey, Aaron Johnson, Blake Battaglia, and Brett Reichard.

The 255 Day 1b entrants brought the total number of entries for the Main Event to 447, generating a total prize pool of $677,602. $138,317 will be awarded to the eventual winner, along with a seat in the 2020 WSOPC Global Championship. The tournament will pay 68 places, meaning just two players have to bust before players earn a min-cash of $2,533.

Play will resume at Level 16, with the blinds at 2000/4000 and a 4,000 big blind ante for 32:56, before levels convert to one-hour in length for the remainder of the tournament. Follow along with the PokerNews live reporting team as we return Sunday at Noon to come one step closer to crowning a champion here in Milwaukee!

Esquivel Makes Two Pair the Hard Way

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Michael Esquivel
Michael Esquivel

Travis Lauson raised to 9,000 from middle position, and Michael Esquivel three-bet to 24,000 on the button. Lauson called.

Lauson checked the {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{a-Hearts} flop to Esquivel, who bet 22,000. Lauson called.

Both players checked the {10-Diamonds} turn, and Lauson checked a third time on the {4-Clubs} river. Esquivel bet 40,000, and Lauson called. Esquivel flipped over {10-Spades}{4-Spades} for runner-runner two pair after the flop, and Lauson smirked, then mucked.

Lauson Fades the Sweat

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Travis Lauson
Travis Lauson

A player had his last 23,500 in the pot from middle position, and Travis Lauson had him at risk from the cutoff.

Opponent: {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Travis Lauson: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Both players found a pair on the {8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop, but Lauson held the lead with his pair of aces. The {9-Spades} turn gave both players straight draws, and the {j-Diamonds} river left Lauson with two pair and the winner.

"Always gotta be a sweat!" a smiling Lauson told his tablemates before bringing in his newfound chips.

Jill Bryant: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Rogowski, Herstein Out

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Andy Rogowski
Andy Rogowski

Andy Rogowski put his last 2,500 in from under the gun, and both Nicola Ditrapani in the cutoff and Alan Cutler in big blind called.

"Thank you, dealer!" Rogowski said before the {k-Spades}{7-Hearts}{j-Clubs} flop could fall. Ditrapani bet 4,000, and Cutler folded.

"I'm going to need perfect-perfect," Rogowski told Ditrapani once the cards were tabled.

Andy Rogowski: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Nicola Ditrapani: {k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Rogowski was left dead on the {a-Diamonds} turn, and Rogowski was out of his chair before the {9-Diamonds} river could fall.

"You too?" Rogowski asked Gary Herstein, who was also out of his seat.

"Ace-king," Herstein said with a nod, and the duo headed to the rail.

The small blind raised to 3,500, and Paul "Big Daddy" Elfelt made the call in the big blind.

"Forty-two," said the small blind after the {3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop hit the felt. Elfelt quickly raised to 10,000, and the small blind looked skyward for a moment, before throwing his hand away.

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante
Jill Bryant
Jill Bryant

A preflop raising war saw the small blind get in his last 38,600, Jill Bryant jam over the top from the hijack, and Ben Wiora fold what he later claimed to be {j-}{j-}.

Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Jill Bryant: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Bryant's tens picked up a flush draw on the {4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop, and she left her opponent dead to a chop on the {7-Clubs} turn. The {5-Spades} river confirmed the KO of the small blind, and Bryant continues to crush her way through Day 1b.

Wazwaz Sets Himself Up For a Triple

Level 8 : 300/600, 600 ante
Rob Wazwaz
Rob Wazwaz

Henry Zou checked a {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop from the small blind, and the big blind jammed for 16,300. Rob Wazwaz called off his last 15,700 from under the gun, and Blake Battaglia thought for a minute before calling to put both players at risk. Zou folded and the hands were tabled.

Rob Wazwaz: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Blake Battaglia: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Wazwaz looked to be in good shape to triple up, but the {9-Hearts} turn gave Battaglia a flush draw. The {8-Diamonds} river bricked off, and Wazwaz said, "Oh, I didn't even see the flush draw!" before scooping in the huge triple, while both the big blind and Battaglia were left on fumes.

Ben Rock
Ben Rock

Ben Rock (under-the-gun) and Rich Alsup (next-to-act) got into a preflop raising war that saw both players invest 12,500 to see a {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop.

Rock led out for 15,000, and Alsup folded, showing at least an {a-} as he did.

"Kings?" Alsup asked Rock.

Rock showed {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush draw, and told Alsup, "You keep three-betting me!"

Daniel Sepiol
Daniel Sepiol

A player raised to 1,300 from the hijack, and Nicola Ditrapani, who won Event #7: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack here this week for his first WSOPC ring, called on the button. Daniel Sepiol three-bet to 7,700 from the big blind, and only the hijack called.

Sepiol led out for 5,000 on the {j-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Spades} flop, and his opponent quickly raised to 10,000. Sepiol jammed for 26,000 total, and his opponent went deep into the tank. After about two minutes, he released his hand.

"Wow...I'm really surprised," tablemate Alan Cutler told Sepiol while he was stacking his chips up.
