Sanzaro's Set Gets Paid

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

A player bet 800 from the small blind on a {4-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, and Steven Sanzaro raised to 2,200 from under the gun. His opponent called.

The {j-Clubs} fell on the turn, and the small made a tiny bet of 400. Sanzaro raised again, this time to 2,000, and the small blind called.

"Check," said the small blind before the {j-Spades} could fall on the river. Sanzaro tossed another 2,000 out, and the small blind called once more, only to muck after Sanzaro tabled {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds} for a full house.

Kim Makes a Big Laydown Against Rock

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

Yoon Kim raised to 300 from early position, and was called by Larry Ormson in middle position, as well as the button, Ben Rock in the small blind, and Rich Alsup in the big blind.

Rock checked the {q-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop, and Alsup bet 500. Kim raised to 1,200, and action folded back to Rock, who three-bet to 3,000. Alsup folded and Kim called.

The {10-Hearts} fell on the turn, and Rock bet 3,500. Kim called after a minute in the tank.

Rock bet 5,000 on the {2-Hearts} river, and Kim didn't take long to toss his {a-}{a-} to the muck. Rock didn't show, and instead scooped up the pot.

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #2: $400 NLH Multi-Flight, 921 runners over four starting flights and created a $303,390 prize pool. That was paid out to the top 136 players including Kirk Spano (12th - $3,671), Renato Manalo (20th - $2,131), Josh Reichard (23rd - $1,843), Howard Hankin (25th - $1,623), Jerod Smith (36th - $1,244), and Bryan Skreens (62nd - $911).

In the end, 28-year-old Jacob Rich of Plymouth, Wisconsin took it down for $52,680 and his first gold ring. The payday came at just the right time too as Rich is planning on opening his own business.

“It feels great,” Rich said after the win. “I’ve been playing poker since I was 21 but I’ve really been working on a few projects these past few years. I’m opening a cheese plant in Plymouth, Wisconsin to sell goat cheese. I just got my cheese making license and the plant is on its way to opening, so I’m very happy.”

Congrats to the latest “Cheesehead” gold ring winner.
