Welcome to Day 1b of the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit Potawatomi Main Event!

The time has come for the second and final flight of the 2019 World Series of Poker Circuit Potawatomi $1,700 Main Event, and Day 1b hopefuls will be looking to join the 31 players who made it through yesterday's Day 1a flight. Leading the pack from yesterday's flight is Sohale Khalili with 624,000, while Ravi Raghavan (481,000), Brett Apter (339,000), Josh Reichard (132,000) are still in the hunt, as are former WSOPC Potawatomi champs Michael Hudson (148,000) and Keven Stammen (90,000).

Day 1b is set to kick off at 11 a.m. local time, and features fifteen forty-minute levels, and a single one-hour level will be played before play ends for the evening. Blinds start off at 100/100 for the Main Event, and players begin with 30,000 in tournament chips, with big blind ante kicking in at Level 2.

Players will receive a fifteen-minute break after Levels 3, 6, 12 and 15, and a sixty-minute dinner break after Level 9. Registration will remain open through the beginning of Level 13, and a single re-entry is available to players.

This marks the WSOPC's second stop at Potawatomi this year, as in February, Michael Hudson bested a field of 667 entries to earn $207,159 and deny Joshua Turner from earning his eighth WSOPC ring. WSOP Bracelet winner Kevin Stammen won the 2018 WSOPC Potawatomi Main Event, taking home $190,265 for navigating a 604 player field.

Maurice Hawkins, Allen Kessler, and Craig Trost are expected to fire again today, while Umut Ozturk, Dan Bekavac, and Jason Reno will be getting their first taste of Main Event action. All players that were unable to find a bag yesterday, along with any new players, are all eligible to play.

Follow along with PokerNews as action gets underway here in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as we continue the journey to crown the latest WSOPC Main Event champ!

Wester Wins a Wild One With Aces Against Aces and Kings

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Jerry Wester
Jerry Wester

Jerry Wester was all in before the flop for his last 30,000 from the button, and his two opponents, who were slightly covered by Wester, had committed their chips as well after a preflop raising war.

Small Blind: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Big Blind: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Jerry Wester: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Wester's aces found a lot of help in avoiding a chop on a {4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} flop, and sure enough, the {5-Diamonds} turn gave Wester the nut flush, leaving both of his opponents dead to the {7-Hearts} river. Wester finds himself with triple the starting stack just minutes into Day 1b.

Nick Pupillo Captures 3rd Gold Ring in WSOP Circuit Potawatomi Opener

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is in Milwaukee to live report action the $1,700 Main Event, but is just one of a dozen gold ring events at the stop. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #1: $400 NLH Double Stack, a total of 256 entries created a $84,480 prize pool that was paid out to the top 39 players. Among those to cash were Ben Rock (7th - $2,663), Robert Keating (11th - $1,352), Cheryl Choon (17th - $952), Bryan Skreens (19th - $824), Jason Reno (21st - $824), and Josh Reichard (35th - $558).

In the end, poker pro Nick Pupillo came out on top to win $19,413 and his third gold ring.

“It feels really good to win this tournament, but I had a lot of luck,” said Pupillo. “I was all-in a lot needing help and was fortunate enough it came.”

To seal the deal, he had to defeat Brett Reichard, the father of Circuit stud Josh Reichard, in heads-up play. It took him a single hand to do it.

“I thought we were going to have a very long battle,” Pupillo admitted. “Brett is an excellent player who has two rings along with his son who has eleven, but I got lucky and took him on the very first hand.”

Wazwaz Gets Half With a Straight

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante

Five players invested 400 to see a {k-Spades}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop together, and action checked to the preflop raiser, Steve Wazwaz from under the gun. He bet 1,000, and was called by the player next to act, as well as Bryan Skreens on the button and Ricky Landais in the small blind.

"You kids have fun," Craig Trost said before folding his big blind.

Action checked through the {8-Hearts} turn, and the {9-Clubs} fell on the river. Landais checked, and Wazwaz bet 4,000. The player next to act called, and Skreens and Landais folded.

Wazwaz tabled {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a straight, and chopped it up with his opponent's {k-Hearts}{10-Spades} for the same straight.
