Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante

Jarrod Donovan was under the gun going into the turn, against Shirin Oskooi in the hijack and a third player in the cutoff.

With the board showing {5-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, Donovan and Oskooi both checked, and the cutoff bet 4,600. Donovan check-raised to 11,000, Oskooi folded, and the cutoff thought it over for a bit before also folding.

While PokerNews is here offering live updates from the $1,700 Main Event, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the full schedule of side events that have been playing out over the past week at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harveys Lake Tahoe.

In Event #5: $400 NLH 6-Handed, 205 runners created a $67,650 prize pool that was paid out to the top 31 places. Among those to get a piece of it were Vincent Moscati (10th - $1,451), Michael Faulkner (12th - $1,157), Vanessa Kade (14th - $952), Shirin Oskooi (24th - $709), David Larson (26th - $643), and Jeff Day (31st - $302).

In the end, it was well-known poker pro Dan O’Brien, who now calls Lake Tahoe home, besting Dustin Fox in heads-up play to win the tournament for $16,543 and his first gold ring. The victory came just 24 hours after he finished runner-up to Adam Owen in Event #3.

“It’s sick. I actually forgot that I was getting a ring. It’s honestly really great to play with Dustin heads up,” O’Brien said after the win. “I haven’t been playing as much poker, but I’m playing local stuff. I’m not traveling. This is a mile away, and it’s cool. Honestly, I’m really excited about this. It’s a really fantastic feeling.”

Zakaria Versus Castro, The Sequel

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante
Jorgio Castro
Jorgio Castro

On the hand immediately following a big heads-up pot between Jordan Spurlingio Castro and Eddie Zakaria, the two players went head-to-head again.

The resulting pot was a bit smaller, and started with an open raise to 800 from Zakaria from under the gun. The small blind called, as well as Castro in the big blind.

Action checked to Zakaria on the {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop, and Zakaria bet 1,100, getting a fold from the small blind and a call from Castro.

Castro checked the {2-Clubs} turn, Zakaria bet 2,200, and Castro called. Both players checked the {j-Diamonds} river, and Castro won the battle this time, showing {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and prompting Zakaria to muck.

Eddie Zakaria
Eddie Zakaria

In what appeared to a be a three-bet pot, about 7,500 chips were already in the middle when Jorgio Castro and Eddie Zakaria went to the flop from the two earliest positions.

That flop came {k-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}, and Castro checked from under the gun. Zakaria bet 1,200, Castro put in the check-raise to 3,500, and Zakaria called.

Both players checked the {6-Diamonds} turn. Castro bet 3,500 on the {j-Diamonds} river, and Zakaria raised to 13,000.

Castro went into the tank for awhile, eventually choosing to fold.

Mankin Ousts Another

Level 6 : 200/400, 400 ante
Erle Mankin
Erle Mankin

With {9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{9-Hearts} on the board, Erle Mankin went all in from the cutoff, having his opponent on the big blind covered.

The big blind player had about 23,000 chips remaining, and went deep into the tank. He eventually decided on a call, but ended up heading to the rail when Mankin showed {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Mankin's opponent was obliged to turn over his {a-}{j-}, and hastily made his way to the exit.
