Ung Ousts Opponent

Level 7 : 300/500, 500 ante

Michael Ung opened to 1,200 from the cutoff, the button raised to 3,700, and Ung four-bet to 30,000, enough to put the button all in if he called.

Ung did indeed get the call, and the players went heads up to the showdown.

Button: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Michael Ung: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Board: {5-Spades}{9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

The button player could only shake his head when the river queen came in, shipping his stack to Ung and sending him to the exit.

The dealer spread a flop of {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} that was checked around to the {a-Hearts} turn. The player under the gun bet 1,500 and the player from one seat over folded but Park called.

The {6-Clubs} filled up the board and the player under the gun bet 4,500. Park instantly called and turned over {a-Spades}{2-Spades} for trip aces. His opponent tossed his cards in the muck.

Jeffrey Gotts

PokerNews is in town to live report both the High Roller and Main Event here at the World Series of Poker Circuit Planet Hollywood, but those are just two gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #9: $400 Monster Stack, 617 entrants created a $203,610 prize pool that was paid out to the top 93 players. Among those to cash but fall short of making the final table were Shawn Nelson (10th - $2,960), Longsheng Tan (23rd - $1,405), Jamie Kerstetter (34th - $823), Chris Horvath (46th - $684), and Albert Ng (70th - $602).

In the end, Jeffrey Gotts, a 57-year-old video engineer, bested Justin Keener in heads-up play to win the title for $38,328 and his first gold ring.

“I haven’t played live in over a year. I usually play Sundays online, but it usually gets in the way of plans,” Gotts said after the win. “I have a Run It Once subscription, and I play with some of the poker software that’s out there.”
