Zarco's Kings Hold Up

Level 14 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Javier Zarco
Javier Zarco

On the turn the board read {5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Spades}. Javier Zarco bet 8,500. He was raised to 19,000 by one opponent and Brekstyn Schutten folded. Zarco put in the additional chips for the call.

The river came the {9-Clubs}. Zarco checked and his opponent checked behind. Zarco announced kings and showed {k-}{k-}. His opponent mucked and Zarco took in the pot commenting how we was glad that he was not pushed any harder on the river with a big bet.

Stellatos Keeps Stackin'

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player in early position shoved all-in for 36,000 and the action folded around to Gregory Stellatos who snap-called in the big blind.

Early Position: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Gregory Stellatos: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Stellatos was in great shape with pocket aces and the flop of {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Clubs} had his opponent drawing to a gutshot, the {5-Clubs} on the turn was no help for the opponent and the {k-Clubs} fell on the river adding to Stellatos' massive stack.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Hammond to live report both the $1,700 Main Event and $2,200 High Roller; however, those are just two of more than a dozen gold ring events that will have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #4: $600 No-Limit Hold’em saw 154 runners create a $79,310 prize pool that was distributed to the top 24 players. Among those to get a piece of it but fall short of making the final table were Eric Jaroch (11th - $1,375), Joe Leibman (16th - $1,020), John “Farmboy” Kurfman (18th - $1,020), Blake Whittington (20th - $918), and Jordan Jayne (24th - $850).

Coming out on top was 50-year-old Jerry Gumila of Steamwood, Illinois, who took home $20,773 and his first gold ring after a four-year hiatus away from the game.

“It feels good, I didn’t expect it to happen but I gave it a shot and I’m really happy I won a ring, this things are hard to get,” Gumila said after his win. “I haven’t really had time to play as much as I would like due to work but I love poker and I love the game.”

He added: “I’m probably not going to play much more of the Circuit due to my work schedule but I feel good and I feel like I can compete, so I’ll be here for the Main Event.”

Moreno Flushes Dixon Out of the Tournament

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

A player in middle position raised to 5,000 and the action folded to Robert Moreno who three-bet on the button to 19,000. Edward Dixon was next to act and jammed his entire stack of roughly 39,000 in the middle forcing the big blind and the original raiser to fold before Moreno snap-called.

Edward Dixon: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Robert Moreno: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

It was a race and the flop favored Dixon when it came {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} giving him top pair, and the {4-Clubs} on the turn was a brick but the {7-Diamonds} landed on the river giving Moreno a flush and sending Dixon to the rail.
