Kester Turns Flush to Double

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

The flop read {2-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{a-Spades}. Jeffrey Kester made a big shove all in for about 30,000 over his opponent's bet of 5,000. His opponent paused for a few moments before he called.

Kester had a naked flush draw with the {k-Hearts}{7-Hearts} while his opponent had top pair top kicker with the {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}. The turn brought in the flush as it came the {5-Hearts} and the {8-Clubs} on the river secured the pot for Kester.

"You weren't lying when you said you like to gamble" said his opponent as the majority of his chips were taken away.

PokerNews is in town to live report both the $1,700 Main Event and $2,200 High Roller here at the World Series of Poker Circuit Rio Las Vegas, but those are just three of the gold ring events that will have played out by the end of the series.

In Event #6: $400 NLH Double Stack Turbo, 238 runners offered up a $78,540 prize pool that was paid out to the top 36 players. Among those to cash were Brett Murray (3rd - $7,936), Michael Rossitto (7th - $2,489), Dylan Thomassie (9th - $1,574), Max Pescatori (15th - $1,084), Darren Rabinowitz (19th - $816), and Brian Reinert (31st - $615).

Coming out on top was Gregory Hughes, who captured a $18,015 first-place prize and his first gold ring.

“It feels really good, and it feels especially good being as low in chips as I was and being able to come back, that feels great,” Hughes said after the win.

According to WSOP officials, the one-day turbo event started at noon and got down to a final table after seven hours of poker action.

“When we had three tables I was down to 8000 chips, but I tripled, then doubled and just rolled from there. It was almost like it was meant to be,” Hughes explained. “I have been playing poker for a while but it has never been the only thing I do. Then the business I worked at got sold, so I had an opportunity to take some time off for three or four months to play poker, and three months later I got a ring.”

Burns Extracts from Eldar

Level 5 : 200/300, 300 ante

The flop read {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{5-Spades} and the pot contained about 6,000. Alon Eldar bet 3,200 and Stephe Burns called to see the {a-Diamonds} turn card where both players checked through to the {10-Hearts} river.

Eldar tapped to Burns who fired in 5,000 and Eldar snap-called. Burns tabled {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a rivered flush and Eldar mucked, shipping the pot to Burns.

Sivinov Sieves Some Chips From Opponent

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Ivaylo Sivinov was seen in action as his 9,000 river bet of a board that read {j-}{4-}{5-}{8-}{5-} was really putting the screws to his opponent, who had the clock called on him after a while.

His opponent folded after the clock was called and allowed Sivinov to add some more chips to his growing stack.

Marchal Doubles With Better Kicker

Level 4 : 100/200, 200 ante

Three players were contesting a hand as the board read {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}. Jesse Shotwell bet 2,100. Ben Thomas thought for a while before bowing out. Joseph Marchal was next to act and moved all in for his remaining amount of about 9,700. Shotwell called after a few seconds.

Marchal had the better kicker as he held the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} against the {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} of Shotwell. The river was the {10-Clubs} and Marchal gained a nice pot.
