Defending Champion Karaarslan Joins the Fray

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante
Feyzullah Karaarslan
Feyzullah Karaarslan

With Andrea Ricci, the penultimate winner of the WSOP Circuit Main Event has already been part of the action since the start of Day 1a. He is now joined by Feyzullah Karaarslan, who won the last edition in late January 2022.

Karaarslan was involved in a pot with Benyamin Glot, who check-called a bet worth 1,500 by Karaarslan on the {8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{10-Clubs} turn. The {5-Diamonds} fell on the river and Glot checked once more. Karaarslan made it 4,000 to go and his opponent sent the cards into the muck.

Helou Chips Up Without Showdown

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

Picking up the action on the three-way flop of {j-Spades}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}, Gilles Nigro checked in the big blind and Mark Helou bet 2,500 in the hijack. Vladimir Rehak called on the button and Nigro check-raised to 7,500, earning two calls. The {k-Hearts} turn was checked to Helou, who bet 5,500 and received two calls.

Nigro checked again the {4-Clubs} on the river and Helou made it 12,000 to go. Rehak quickly folded and Nigro did so after plenty of consideration.

"The Talk", one of the regular players at King's Resort who typically makes his alias proud with plenty of table chat, was the first casualty of the day. However, he near instantly bought back in for the second of potentially three bullets on Day 1a. The field has now reached 99 entries of which 98 players remain.

Among the newest additions in the field are Lukas Zaskodny, Robert Galant, and former football striker Sergej Barbarez.

Asatrjan Chips Up Further Without Showdown

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

The stack of Hovhannes Asatrjan has received another boost and this time, there was no showdown. In a heads-up pot against Sameh Thake, some 33,000 were in the middle to the {9-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{a-Spades} river. With the flush draw arriving, Asatrjan applied pressure and made it 21,500 to send his opponent into the tank.

No call followed and Asatrjan took down the pot while Thake, who has a card protector with the slogan "I am the best" cannot confirm that statement for the time being.

Level 1 : 100/200, 200 ante

On the tail end of a heads-up pot between Duc Quy Nguyen and Josef Gulas, the completed board read {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Nguyen bet 2,500 and earned a call within a few seconds by King's Resort regular Gulas to reveal the {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a full house. That ended up as the winning hand, as Gulas sent his cards into the muck.

With already 21,000 in the middle to the {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{k-Diamonds} turn, a bet worth 15,000 was in front of Vadym Sienichkin in the small blind and that sent Andrea Ricci into the tank. The Italian eventually called on the button and Sienichkin then tanked the {j-Clubs} on the river before he opted to check.

Ricci bet 4,000 and Sienichkin paid that off within a few seconds to muck his cards once he was shown the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for the top pair and top kicker.

Hovhannes Asatrjan raised to 600 in the cutoff and Dmytro Bystrovzorov three-bet to 2,000 from one seat over, which only Asatrjan called. Both checked down the {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop and the {7-Diamonds} turn. On the {6-Clubs} river, Asatrjan overbet for 7,000 and Bystrovzorov reluctantly called to get shown the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} for quads by his table neighbour, which produced several grins by other players at the table.

Karl Paeschke in the cutoff then bet 1,500 and Bartosz Pajak called on the button. Nagygyorgy check-raised to 4,000 and earned two folds to claim a pot right away. The Hungarian is one of the more notable players with more than $600k in recorded live cashes.
