Day 1bc Completed
Last year, the World Series of Poker Circuit Marrakech Main Event at the Casino de Marrakech inside the Es Saadi Resort attracted 1,163 entrants. That record is now history, as the 2025 edition has set a new benchmark with 1,523 entries.
As anticipated, Day 1b of the Main Event was massive, drawing 734 players in this second flight. By the end of the day, 129 remained, with a new overall chip leader, “Borjatm5”.
The Spanish grinder already had a big tack after the dinner break and continued to climb. His momentum peaked on the final hand of the day, where he jammed with third pair, putting pressure on Azeddine Chamma. Chamma appeared to have the best hand but ultimately folded, allowing Borjatm5 to scoop a 140,000-chip pot and bag an impressive 576,000 chips.

Mohamed El Wely in the small blind saw his 59,000 chip-stack beeing called by Rene on the button.
Mohamed El Wely: A♣Q♥
Rene: A♦9♦
El Wely was on his way to double up on 6♦8♥K♦3♠, but the cruel 9♣ completed the board, sending him to the rail. At the same time, two other players were eliminated at different tables.

The action was picked up on a board of 6♣4♠3♣6♥5♠ with a bit more than 180,000 in the pot. Malcolm Franchi in early position checked, then went deep into the tank after Christopher Dowling in the hijack moved all-in for 145,000.
Franchi tried to make a decision for several minutes, but couldn't make any, so the clock was called. He eventually chose to fold at the end of the 30-second countdown and lost this big pot.
One more elimination is now needed to end the day.
