Top Tip: Double Check your Hole Cards...

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

We've all been there. Celebrating the river card which we think gives us the win but in fact...doesn't.

Spare a thought for Choukri Chergui who slammed the table and fist bumped when the board completed {K-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs} holding {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} against Imad Derwiche's {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. It wasn't until a tablemate pointed it out to him that he didn't in fact river the winner that he let out an unfortunately unpublishable French word and started counting out the double for Derwiche

Overbet Bluff From Lalwani

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Three players including Rakesh Lalwani checked a flop of {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and saw a turn of {10-Clubs} where his opponent bet out 7,000. Lalwani called and when checked to him on the river, he overbet the pot with 35,000 chips making their way into the middle. His opponent let out a wry smile and folded, and Lalwani showed {6-Spades}{8-Spades}

You Win Some, You Lose Some

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

It's been a peculiar few hands for Table 8. First, a Spanish player moved all-in, and was swiftly re-raised all in by Julien Robert. Jonathan Khalifa, looked down and let out a "Wow!" and started to count chips. Eventually he folded, and the cards were turned on their backs: {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} vs {A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Khalifa wasn't too happy, as he had folded {A-}{K-}. The board ran out {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and the Spanish player doubled up.

A short while later the same thing happened, Guillaume Darcourt opened UTG and the same Spaniard moved all in for 47,000. Julien Robert, again, looked down at his cards and re-raised all him. And Jonathan Khalifa let out another huge "Wow!"

Again Khalifa folded and the cards were turned over: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} vs {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. What hand did Khalifa fold? {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} How do I know his exact suits? Well the board ran out {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs} so I'm pretty sure they were the other two tens.

More Eliminations

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We really are continuing to lose players at an alarming rate. The clock says there are 86 players remaining from 169 which started Day 2. The average is 154,883 at 2,000/4,000/500 meaning that the average stack is 38 big blinds. There is a lot of play in this, especially as the levels are now one hour long

Aces Cracked by Khalifa

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

It looks like the only way Jonathan Khalifa is going to chip up is by raising instead of calling, judging by his earlier hands. In this hand he raised with {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} 8,500 and was re-raised by Kalidou Sow to 18,000. The small blind and Khalifa called and they all saw a flop of {Q-}{J-}{2-}. It was checked to Sow who continuation bet for 25,000, the small blind folded and Khalifa moved all-in.

Sow tanked for around 30 seconds before calling with {A-}{A-}, and was ahead...until the Queen on the turn. Sow is eliminated just short of the second break of the day

Belatik Busto; Gerin Chips Up

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Rebecca Gerin has been doing some healing in the last few minutes. She is one of two women left in the field, the other being Natalia Breviglieri, and she just knocked out Anas Belatik.

Gerin raised from middle position and got re-raised all-in by Belatik. Gerin called.

Gerin: {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Belatik: {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

The board came {J-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Belatik made his way to the exit.

There are now 70 players remaining, with 44 places being paid

Naughty Words Fly in French

Level 17 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

I know very few naughty French words. The very small list was learnt during secondary school whilst bored in French lessons. However, Yohan Argence probably just taught me a few more.

Mouad Nokra bet a flop of {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and got a call from Argence. Both players checked the {10-Hearts} on the turn and after a quick think, Argence bet 40,000 on the {7-Clubs} river. That was when the swearing started. Argence tabled {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} but Nokra had rivered a set with {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} to win the last hand before the break
