Welcome to Day 1a of the 2021 WSOP International Circuit Main Event at the King's Resort

Main Event Day 1a
Main Event Day 1a

Live poker is back in Europe and the biggest poker arena has been welcoming guests from near and far. The WSOP International Circuit headed to the King's Resort in Rozvadov, home of the WSOP Europe festival throughout the last few years. It all wraps up with the flagship €1,700 Main Event, which takes place from September 10 to 14.

The tournament comes with a €1 million guarantee and consists of two starting days on September 10 and 11. Each of them will play nine levels of 60 minutes each and allows for two re-entries. Day 1a will kick off at 2pm local time. However, the late registration for the event itself is open until the start of level 12 on September 12.

One hour prior to the start, Day 1a of the Main Event shows 40 entrants while a €200 satellite is still underway. There were a total of 129 entries and the top 14 finishers will receive the €1,700 ticket whereas the 15th receives €710 for the efforts. Among those in the mix were Philipp Zukernik, Karol Konopka, Bernd Werner, Jelka Andelic, Maryna Khatskevich, Elias Abou Saleh, and Oliver Heidel.

Many further regulars at King's are expected to join the action and the poker arena has seen solid numbers throughout the entire festival so far. Stay tuned to find out who takes a shot at the WSOP Circuit Ring in the next few days, as the PokerNews team will be there from start to finish.

El Hani Essentially Doubles

Level 2 : 100/300, 300 ante
All-In and Call
All-In and Call

The cards of Giorgi Mevlupishvili were already in the muck as he conceded an essential double up to Abdelmajid El Hani.

On a board of {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{j-Spades}, El Hani had made queens full with the {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} and dragged in the very large pot.

"What did you show? Aces?" another player at the table asked and Mevlupishvili replied that he had kings.

In the meanwhile, Valdir Cordeiro Dos Santos on his second bullet complained that he would have won the pot, which indicates he had pocket jacks. Either way, the Brazilian is down in chips and has some work ahead.

Goossens Chips Up Through Bogusz

Level 3 : 200/400, 400 ante
Guy Goossens
Guy Goossens

With 7,800 in the middle to the {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades} turn, Guy Goossens checked and Karol Bogusz made it 6,000 to go. The Belgian reluctantly called and checked again the {9-Clubs} on the river. Bogusz bet another 10,000 to earn a call and turned over {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, which Goossens had beat with the {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

Eldabach Lasts Five Minutes

Level 4 : 200/500, 500 ante
Vincent De Neve
Vincent De Neve

Eyal Bensimhon raised it up and Vincent de Neve three-bet the cutoff, which Dorel Eldabach and Bensimhon called. On a flop of {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, the action checked to Eldabach and he bet 5,000 but nearly made it a string bet. The floor was called and it was ruled as a legit bet. Bensimhon folded and de Neve folded.

On the {6-Hearts} turn, de Neve check-called for another 11,000 and checked the {j-Spades} on the river. Eldabach now jammed for around 27,000 and de Neve snap-called to get shown the {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a busted open-ender. De Neve had that beat with {a-Spades}{j-Hearts} and sent Eldabach to the rail.

Level 4 : 200/500, 500 ante
Vivian Saliba
Vivian Saliba

Vivian Saliba three-bet to 4,000 only for the initial raiser Shawn Morales to four-bet for 16,300 in total. Saliba only called and the flop came {k-Spades}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Morales made it 10,000 to go. What followed was the raise to 30,000 by Saliba with 5,000 behind and both then got the rest of it in.

Vivian Saliba: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Shawn Morales: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The {4-Hearts} turn and {2-Hearts} river brought no help to Saliba and she was sent to the rail.

Dominik Paus

Dominik Paus opened to 2,200 and Robert Ashelm called in the small blind. Hendriekus Soering three-bet to 10,000 in the big blind and Paus then clicked it back to 23,500. Ashelm tanked for more than two minutes and folded, Soering jammed for 48,000 and was instantly called.

Hendriekus Soering: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Dominik Paus: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Lucky Double for Somers

Level 6 : 400/800, 800 ante
Fabrice Somers
Fabrice Somers

There was a loud outburst on the left tournament area and when the live updates team arrived, Fabrice Somers was already celebrating.

The Belgian had gotten his stack of more than 60,000 in preflop with the {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} only to run it smack dab into the {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs} of Claudio Di Giacomo. However, the board ran out {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{6-Spades}{j-Clubs} and Somers scored the fortunate double.

Mzoughi Busts Two to Chip Up Further

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Karim Mzoughi
Karim Mzoughi

Karim Mzoughi raised to 2,500 and was called by Antonio Scalzi. Yiannakis Papapetrou then three-bet to 6,500 and was called both ways, albeit very reluctantly by Scalzi. On a flop of {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{8-Spades}, Papapetrou jammed for 14,500 and Mzoughi called, Scalzi tank-folded.

Yiannakis Papapetrou: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Karim Mzoughi: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

The {10-Clubs} turn instantly left Papapetrou in dire shape and the {7-Diamonds} river changed nothing anymore.

Shortly after, Scalzi jammed for 11,000 from under the gun and Mzoughi called in the big blind.

Antonio Scalzi: {a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Karim Mzoughi: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The {j-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} board sent yet another stack to Mzoughi.

In a three-bet pot to the {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop, Vangelis Kaimakamis opted to check-shove and was instantly called by Robert Ashelm with the far superior stack.

Vangelis Kaimakamis: {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Robert Ashelm: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

The {8-Hearts} turn paired the board and the {7-Clubs} river bricked to send Kaimakamis to the rail.

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Amir Mozaffarian
Amir Mozaffarian

The {8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Spades}{a-Spades} turn saw a bet worth 11,100 by Andrzej Jedryczka and Amir Mozaffarian then hammed for 56,700 in the cutoff. Jedryczka was in the tank and tried to start some table chat without too much avail. He then tossed in calling chips to create the following showdown.

Amir Mozaffarian: {k-Spades}{9-Spades}
Andrzej Jedryczka: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The {6-Hearts} river bricked and Mozaffarian will have to try again on Day 1b.
