Sexton's Buried Aces Wins Pot

His opponent showing some dangerous upcards -- A-2-4-5 -- Mike Sexton turned over a pair of buried aces to go with his 7-9-9-J, good for two pair (aces and nines), and scooped a big pot. Mike's opponent made three pair (deuces, fours, and fives), missing both his full house and low draws.

Sexton now has 10,000 chips.

Mitch Joins Table 43

Earlier, we told you about Mitch Maxey's tournament victory in room 1145. He's since moved downstairs to the Amazon Room and has taken a seat behind Phil Ivey, one of his favorite players.

Scotty Nguyen came over to say hello, and Nolan Dalla asked all of the players at Phil's table to autograph a seat card for Mitch; they obliged.

On this day, Mitch Maxey is the highest of high rollers and loving every minute of it.

30 Miles to the River

Brian Nadell just doubled through an unknown player, scooping a big pot with three 10's. His opponent showed A-2-3-4 and held two pair (aces and deuces) when they moved all-in, but failed to hit either his high or low draws.

Nadell now has over 7,000 chips.

Setting the Scene

With the basketball game over, stomachs' full, minds and bodies rested, the field has returned from dinner break with a calm and focused resolution.

It's much quieter here in the Amazon Room, with the exception of the Mouth, of course.

Poker Players Making a Difference

WSOP tournaments require players to maintain focus and concentration for many long hours at a time, which is why the few breaks they are afforded throughout the tournament are so deeply cherished. Most players spend the downtime lounging, eating, or making off-the-wall proposition bets. One group, however, spent their dinner break granting the wish of a special kid named Mitch Maxey.

Mitch suffers from terminal cancer and his doctors haven't given him much time to live. Mitch's wish, made possible through his father's efforts and connections in the poker world, was to play a poker tournament with some of the game's greatest players. In room 1145 of the Rio All-suite Hotel and Casino, Mitch's wish was granted.

The likes of Tom McEvoy, Phil Laak, Greg Raymer, Mike Sexton, Patrick Antonius, Gavin Smith, Isabelle Mercier, Bill Chen, and Michael Mizrachi all joined in to help give Mitch the time of his life.

Mitch won the tournament and each player took time to shake his hand and thank him for being invited to play.

Soccer and golf are some of Mitch's other passions in life and his father Dale took Mitch to watch the Masters live at Augusta. Hats off to Mitch's dad for making the best of an unfortunate set of circumstances.

Prop Foolery

During the dinner break, Daniel Negreanu, Erick Lindgren, and Michael Mizrachi made a $5,000 prop bet.

The rules were fairly simple: first person to shuffle his chips loses.

After they agreed on the terms, Mizrachi inquired, "what do you mean, shuffle your chips?"

Erick Lindgren was all too happy to show him how. "Like this," he said, as he riffled through a stack of chips, and effectively lost the bet in a matter of seconds.

They've since upped the ante to $10K.
