Supper Time

Play slowed down in the twenty or so minutes before the dinner break, and now the players have 90 minutes to grab a bite and fortify themselves before we resume at 9 p.m. PDT. There are still 12 tables out in the Pavilion and it was just announced those players will be moved inside during the break.

"Alaska Reinforcements" -- Wayne McGregor Only One Left

Mike Forman pushed all-in for 4,200 and one player called. Forman had A-Q and his opponent turned over pocket jacks. The board was no help, and Forman was eliminated. Wayne McGregor is the last one standing (or should I say sitting). He has about 13,500 in chips. Looks like they will have to come back anyway since David Williams wasn't in the event today. Either way, they all said they are having a great time.

Why So Slow?

This tournament is playing remarkably slow, at least in comparison to the past $1,500 events. We were all inside the Amazon room by the dinner break easily in all of the past $1,500 events. But this event - with only about 30 more minutes of play before the dinner break - still has about 15 tables out in the Poker Pavilion.

Clonie Gowen Doubles Up With Pocket Aces

A player bet out 1,200 from middle position, Clonie Gowen raised 2,000 more and her opponent called. The flop came {5-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. Middle position checked, Gowen bet 4,000, and the player in middle position pushed all-in. Gowen took her time before she pushed all-in with her last 5,850. The turn and river came {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. Gowen turned over {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and her opponent showed the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Gowen exclaimed, "man I almost laid that down. I thought you had flopped a set of jacks." After the hand, Gowen had doubled up to 25,000.

See, This Happens in the Real World, Too.

A player in early position moves in for his last 2,700. The player on the button re-raises for about another 3,000 AND the player in the small blind calls. The player in the big blind, with barely 2,000 chips, tanks for a while, but ultimately calls. The hands.
