We Still Got Love, Baby

Kirk Morrison
Kirk Morrison
Kirk Morrison and Scotty Nguyen have just been involved in a hand, which, as usual between these two, involved a lot of chatter.

Kirk raised to 7,000 from the button and Scotty said "Okay, I'll call for you baby." Kirk laughed and as they put out the flop asked, "Do you wanna chop?"

The flop and turn were checked around. The board: {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

The river was the {6-Hearts}. Scotty checked, and Kirk bet out 5,000. Scotty raised that to 25,000. As Kirk leaned back contemplating a call, Scotty told him, "Don't worry, you call, you fold, we still got love, baby."

Kirk eventually made the call and showed Scotty {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} -- good enough, apparently, as Scotty mucked.

JohnnyBax Takes Down a Nice Pot

Cliff "JohnnyBax" Josephy made it 7,000 to go from under the gun and was called by a single opponent. The flop came {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Josephy led out with an 8,000 bet; his opponent called.

The turn brought the {J-Spades} and both players checked. Fireworks ensued when the {10-Spades} fell on the river; Josephy fired out a 25,000 bet and his opponent made the call.

Both players went runner-runner to hit their hands, but Josephy's hand was a bit stronger, as he revealed the {5-Spades}{4-Spades} for a flush; his opponent showed {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for two pair, before mucking his cards.

After the hand, Josephy stacked up 227,000 in chips.

"One Big Happy Family"

A Sea of Players Fill the Amazon Room
A Sea of Players Fill the Amazon Room
This was the term used by a tournament director to describe Day 3, when all remaining players will be playing under the same roof, at the same time. For those not keeping track, "Day 3" is actually Day 7. Despite the massive size of the Amazon Room and the hard work put in by the staff, the facilities here at the Rio simply cannot handle the exponential growth this tournament has seen in recent years.

The idea of "Multiple Day Ones" was dismissed as "absurd" less than a decade ago, but is now a necessary reality that has become part of the norm. The only question these days is "How many Day 1's and 2's will there be?" It will be quite interesting to see the future of this tournament in years to come, with the idea of multiple properties already on the table.

A Note About Play

Play will continue in this level from the current 384 down to 350. That means play will very likely end mid-level, and players in Day 2b tomorrow will have to finish at that exact time.
