Words of Wisdom From Penn & Teller (& Chip Denman)

Penn & Teller, with WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack
Penn & Teller, with WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack
Penn & Teller were introduced by Jeffrey Pollack to give the opening line of "Shuffle up and deal." (Of course, since Teller rarely speaks in public, Penn did all of the talking.) Penn Jillette started by wishing everyone good luck, and then pointing out that players at this level understand that "Luck is nothing but probability taken personally."

It's a great quote, and one that often gets mistakenly attributed to Mr. Jillette. (He likes saying it because he firmly believes it.) But he'll be the first to tell you that it was first said by a statistician named Chip Denman.

Penn & Teller do a show six nights a week here at the Rio, and Penn sometimes plays in the local celebrity poker tournaments.
