Danzer Runs Out of Alligator Blood

And just like that, I've jinxed the poor fellow. Danzer hits the deck soon after with 6-5-4-5-Q-7-K versus A-5-6-7-Q-K-6 in seven-card stud-8, all in on fourth street.

The real damage to Danzer's stack came earlier, however. The Panzer's stack was decimated when his straight was rivered by a flush draw, which not only caught the required club, but a seven to make the low -- a nasty one-outer, according to my source. Ouch.

Alligator Blood

"You just can't get rid of him," comments an observer as George Danzer doubles through.

All in with the {4-Spades} showing, Danzer turns over {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and claims, "It's my lucky hand".

Meanwhile, his opponent has three cards to the low, flipping over {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, but although he initially thought he'd finally eliminated his foe with a subsequent {2-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{3-Spades} for the semi-wheel, Danzer had squeezed in a full house with {A-Hearts}{5-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Spades} to earn his share of the pot.

Danzer survives... just...

Magic Johnson

Gary Benson is no longer our chip leader. He's on around the same as he was 10 minutes ago, but Marco Johnson has since taken a giant leap into the lead on a massive 41,000.

Poker Fashions

The World Series always seems to provide a canvas for people to display their various fashions and styles, and this event appears to be no different. Whilst we are treated to the usual array of headgear, we also have Max Pescatori's Elton John-esque sunglasses, Davood Mehrmand's magnificently bouffant hairdo, not to mention the snug shirt of Scott Clements that is so tight that he's even making my six-pack look small. And of course, rain, wind, or snow, no World Series would be complete without the now infamous sight of Greg Raymer dressed in sandals, shorts and white Panama hat combo.

Gary Happy as Larry

We have a new chip leader in the form of Mr Gary Benson. Holding {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {10-Hearts}, he turned a Broadway straight on a {Q-Clubs} {K-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {9-Spades} {A-?} board, bet it all the way, and eventually knocked out his opponent on the river, catapulting him to the top of the chip-leading pops.

We're Back!

Players have just returned from a color-up break. They'll be playing another two levels tonight.

During the break I chatted to George Danzer about that bizarre hand where the all-in gentleman had only six cards. Apparently what happened was that once he was all in on fifth street, the dealer's brain misfired in a he's-all-in-so-he-doesn't-need-any-more-cards sort of way. George also told me that the rules this year are different from last year -- last year, a player with only six cards would automatically lose the hand without having the opportunity to get a new card. If the player had hit, there might have been some disputes...

Extreme Grindage

In an extraordinary display of upwardly mobile grinding, Men Nguyen has fought his way back up to well over the average. After he was crippled down to a single ante, our field reporter spent a long time lurking like a vulture at Nguyen's table, but owing to repeated double-ups, octuple-ups and so on, our reporter just gave up after Men's stack hit the 9,000 mark. He's currently on around 13,000. Climber of the day!

"Floor!"

Some players don't need all seven cards, such was the case in a recent encounter involving George Danzer, Scott Clements and an unknown player who I shall shamelessly refer to as Mr X.

When I joined the drama, the hands were as follows:

Danzer = {A-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}
Clements = {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Mr X = {2-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Now the astute members of our audience may have noticed that Mr X only has six cards, and you'd be right in your observation, as somehow he missed one of the streets.

As a result, the floor was inevitably called, with the ruling being that the burn cards would be shuffled and Mr X allocated a final card. Fortunately, Mr X, who was all in at the time, already had the low, but could have scooped the lot with an ace or a six to make a straight.

In avoidance of any potential arguments or questioning of the rules, the final card was a harmless {9-Spades}, meaning Mr X took the low and Clements the high with two pair.
