Sebok Doubles Up

Joe Sebok limped in under the gun and Evan McNiff rasied to 8,300. Sebok called and the flop was {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}. Both checked. The turn was {9-Spades} and Sebok bet 12,000. McNiff was all in and Sebok called. Sebok showed {J-Hearts}{10-Spades} to {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} for McNiff. The river was {K-Clubs} and Sebok doubled to 97,000, leaving McNiff with only 38,000.

Not Wasting Any Time

At Table #3, Greg Mueller just took a big pot from Isaac Haxton. On a board showing {10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Haxton checked, Mueller bet 49,000, and Haxton called. Mueller showed {K-Spades}{5-Spades} for the spade flush, and Haxton mucked. Mueller is up to 244,000, and Haxton down to 24,000.

At Table #2, Leo Wolpert just took a big chunk of Mats Gavatin's stack when his {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} outlasted Gavatin's {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. Wolpert is up to 170,000 and Gavatin back down to 68,000.

Pier Ruscalla Eliminated

We have our first elimination already, over at Table #2.

In Pier Ruscalla's penultimate hand, we picked up the action on the river. With a board showing {8-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and a pot already up to 50,000, Mats Gavatin bet 40,000 and Ruscalla made the call. Gavatin showed {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} for top two, and Ruscalla mucked. Ruscalla was down to 8,000 after the hand.

On the very next hand, Gavatin raised to 5,500 from the small blind, Ruscalla reraised his last 8,000 from the big blind, and Gavatin called.

Gavatin {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Ruscalla {J-Spades}{7-Spades}

The board ran out {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, and after 15 minutes of play Ruscalla is out. Gavatin is currently up to 160,000 in chips.

A Reminder (Chip Counts)

We won't be updating chip counts over in the "Chip Counts" section, other than to indicate players having busted or moving on. We will, however, be giving chip count updates here in the blog, more so once tables get down to three-handed and heads up.

Notable Players

There are several interesting tables that are now facing off at these short-handed tables. This is where skill at 6-max play really comes in handy.

Table 1 has Eugene Katchalov, who won the WPT Five Diamond last December for a cool 2.5 million. John Murphy made the top 2 tables at the 2004 WSOP. Joe Sebok of PokerRoad has made several high WPT finishes and is seeking that elusive first WSOP bracelet.

Table 2 has Maciek Gracz, also known as Michael, who has a bracelet in the 2005 $1,000 No Limit Rebuy event. He also took 11th at the WPT World Championship. Jacobo Fernandez took second in the Pot-Limit Hold'em event just five days ago.

Table 3 has Isaac Haxton, who took second in the 2007 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for $860,000. Greg "FBT" Mueller has a ton of online credits and a second place finish in last year's $5,000 Mixed event. Burt Boutin is a member of the legendary Hendon Mob and owns two bracelets, in 2007 for pot-limit omaha and 2001 for pot-limit hold'em. Adam Levy is known as "Roothlus" online and is one of the world's most well known online players.

Over at Table 4, Tony G is the founder of PokerNews and has won Moscow Millions, the Asian Poker Tour event in Singapore, and the European Poker Championships. Alex Jacob won the Ultimate Poker Challenge in 2007 and the U.S. Poker Championship in 2006.

Table 5 has John Juanda, who plays the highest stakes online, won the speed poker event at the 2006 Aussie Millions and owns three WSOP bracelets. Eric "E-Fro" Froehlich is a red Full Tilt pro and owns two WSOP bracelets. Erik Seidel, immortalized in the movie Rounders for his second place finish to Johnny Chan in the 1988 WSOP Main Event, recently won his first WPT event at Foxwoods and took second at Aussie Millions.

Finally, table 6 has Bill Blanda, who has won numerous preliminary WPT events and recently won the $2,000 No Limit event at the Wynn Classic, and Richard Kirsch, who took fourth at the WPT Mirage Poker Classic.

Jamshidi Takes Small Pot

An early hand from Table #3:

Tony G raised to 5,000 from the button, and Sirous Jamshidi called from the big blind. The flop came {6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}. Jamshidi checked, Tony G bet 7,000, and Jamshidi called. The turn was the {9-Spades}, and both players checked.

The river brought the {3-Spades}. Jamshidi bet 12,000, and Tony G folded.
