Event 11 - $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout

Day 2 Completed

$5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout: End of Day 2

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. After winning what amounted to a sit-n-go yesterday in Day 1 of the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, 36 players entered today's Day 2 on a high note. Thirty of them saw their spirits come crashing down. Such are the highs and lows of a WSOP event, but this swing of emotions is never more apparent than at a shootout.

Exiting throughout day 2 action were notable pros Tony G, Joe Sebok, Jacobo Fernandez, Erik Seidel, Burt Boutin, Alex Jacob, Maciek Gracz, Adam Levy, Eric Froehlich, Eugene Katchalov, John Murphy, and John Juanda.

Unfortunately for them, it didn't matter if they blew it in hand #1 or battled it out in heads up for hours, only to lose -- the payout was the same: $16,920. The real money is in the final table of six players.

These six managed to best their tables for the second straight day, only to have to do it all one more time tomorrow at Day 3, this time with a million in chips with which to work:

Sirous Jamshidi
Greg "FBT" Mueller
Thomas Roupe
Phil Tom
Tim West
Leo Wolpert

Anything can happen. Check back here at 2 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday to follow all of the final table action.

Tim West Advances to Final Table

During the first few hands of Level 7, John Juanda had chipped up and held a 321,000 to 279,000 advantage over Tim West. Then came the following two hands:

Juanda raised to 25,000 from the small blind/button, West reraised all in, and Juanda made the call. Juanda showed {A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, and West {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The flop came {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, and West had a commanding lead. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and the river the {A-Clubs}, giving West a boat. West was suddenly up to 579,000 versus Juanda's 21,000.

West had the small blind/button on the next hand, and without checking his cards went ahead and raised to 30,000. Juanda made the call.

West {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}
Juanda {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The board ran out A-Q-9-3-8, and West's pair of queens gave him the last of Juanda's chips. A remarkable comeback: West had been down as low as 50,000 during heads up play.

Rest for Our Combatants

The scheduled 20-minute break has arrived, and it looks like Tim West and John Juanda are taking the full 20. Who would blame them? They've been heads up now for over three hours.

West -- 360,000
Juanda -- 240,000

West Takes Chip Lead

Tim West limped in from the small blind/button, John Juanda raised to 24,000, and West called. The flop came {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Juanda checked, West bet 30,000, and Juanda called. The turn came the {8-Spades} and both players checked.

The river was the {9-Hearts}. Juanda checked, West pushed all in, and Juanda folded.

West has now taken the chip lead with 360,000 to Juanda's 240,000.
