Duane Doubles Up

Not over just yet is the battle between Duane Van Keulem and William Burdick. Burdick made it 1,700 preflop with {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} only for Van Keulem to go over the top of him for 8,525. Burdick called, and was delighted to see that Van Keulem was massively behind with {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}, but his joy faded when Van Keulem outdrew him in the dirtiest way possible and doubled up on the {2-Spades} {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} board.

Greg Gill Breathes Easier

As one mustachioed singer once sang, "another one bites the dust", and this time it's a Mr Fitzpatrick at the hansd of Greg Gill who progresses to round two as a result.

He required some help from the dealer, however, all in with {A-Spades}{10-Clubs} versus {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and searching for an ace. In the end, it was a sneaky straight that won him gold, the board coming an oh-so-cruel {9-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Ouch, that's gotta hurt.

For Whom the Bell Tolls

Chris Bell has been eliminated, pushing all in for his last 5,000 with {10-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} on a {5-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} flop; Jason Gwinn called him with pocket queens.

Bell made his flush on the {3-Diamonds} turn, but it was no good, as Gwinn made a full house on the {6-Hearts} {6-Hearts} river to knock him out and win the table.

Nice Win for Lin

The tables are thinning now, the latest one to draw to a conclusion being table 11 where Lin Linyun has just overcome Jan Arne Djerke. Djerke was visibly distraught when the smoke cleared, and it's easy to see why. With the board reading {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{K-Clubs}, all the chips flew in with Djerke's {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} in domineering shape against Linyun's {K-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. However, it all changed on the {8-Clubs} turn, the following {10-Hearts} river cementing victory and sending Djerke home.

Round Two Getting Closer

Steve Pestal triumphs over Christoph Wagener -- Wagener dug his own grave, shoving the turn of a {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {10-Clubs} board with 6-7 when Pestal had just made a club flush.

------

Clint Schafer found himself holding K-2 with his opponent holding pocket tens, all in preflop, and flopped a second king to go through.

------

Robert Babyar goes through, holding A-J on a {10-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {K-?} {A-?} board. His opponent was holding Q-K, and went all in on the fateful turn.

Gray Cold-Decks Filla

Finally, after an assortment of astonishing outdraws against Will Filla, Craig Gray put Filla out of his misery with a good old-fashioned cold deck. All in on the river of a {K-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {7-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} board, Filla could boast an impressive set of queens, but Gray turned over {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} for a higher set, and advances to round two.

More Winners

John McKinney has won his table to advance to round two, as has Steven Hammerschmidt. Hammerschmidt defeated Mark Weil with {A-Clubs} {7-Spades} against Weil's {J-Spades} {8-Clubs} on a board that read {10-Spades} {6-Spades} {5-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} {9-Spades}, and immediately his victory was assured, he was on his mobile phone, excitedly muttering, "I've got to change my flight!"
