Burdick Victorious

...And just as I am concerned that William Burdick's evening up of the stacks means that we might be stuck on round one a little while longer, it's all over. Both players flop trip queens and stick their chips in, but Burdick is ahead with a ten kicker versus Van Keulem's seven, and Burdick goes ahead and makes a full house on the river.

Burdick Doubles Up

Duane Van Keulen and William Burdick are still at it. They see a {J-Clubs} {A-Clubs} {8-Spades} flop and Burdick bets 1,400 -- Van Keulen raises to put Burdick all in, and Burdick calls. Burdick, however, is ahead with {A-Hearts} {7-Hearts} versus Van Keulen's {10-Hearts} {J-Spades}, and he doubles up to an almost-even 16,000.

Nguyen Nguyens

We sill have a few tables heads-up as we go into a 20-minute break, but one battle that has finally ended is that between Minh Nguyen and Joe Tehan. Both players checked the {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {9-Clubs} flop, and Tehan bet 3,000 and then called all in on the {5-Clubs} turn. He turned over {10-Hearts} {9-Hearts} but Nguyen turned over {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs} -- no more hearts on the river, and Nguyen was finally victorious after more than three hours heads up.

Jefferson Flies Into the Next Round

After three hours of heads up play, and at one point dropping down to around 4,000, Noah Jefferson has won his table -- his opponent got it in with A-8 and Jefferson found the American Airlines at an opportune moment. The board was a clinical one (although the 7-6-4 flop was not without a frisson of danger) and he sent his opponent to the rail.

Nguyen Refuses to Lose

The epic battle between Minh Nguyen and Joe Tehan is still underway, incredibly. Everyone though it was all over when Nguyen called Tehan all in with top pair against a made straight and was crippled down to just 900 chips. Nguyen went all in blind the next hand and doubled up, his 7-9 hitting another seven to beat Tehan's 10-8, and then again the next hand, his Q-K beating Tehan's 4-9. Doing it one more time, Nguyen's pocket sevens made a set against Tehan's Q-9, and he was back in the game with over 7,000 in chips.

Perseverance Pays for Pershad

Sarvesh Pershad raises from the button to cover Rob Smallwood. With just 7,000 left, Smallwoodcalls all in, and is ahead with {A-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} to Pershad's {K-Diamonds} {7-Spades}, but Pershad gets luck and hits the {7-Hearts} {3-Spades} {K-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {7-Clubs} most emphatically to go through to the next round.
