Smith Domination

Patrick O'Brien is no more, getting it all in preflop with K-Q against the dominating A-K of Danny Smith. No miracles for Mr O'Brien and he departs with 100th place money, or 11th, depending on which way you look at it. Danny Smith charges ahead on 72,000.

A Bigger Piece of the Pie

They're falling like intoxicated lemmings on ice skates here in round two, the next man to feel the cold of the ice being Chad Huber. Making a minimum raise to 3,600 preflop with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, Huber caught a piece of the {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop and duly pushed all in for 9,300.

Unfortunately for him, opponent Jason Young held an even bigger piece of the pie with {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs} for top pair and the nut flush draw, a dominating hand that stood up comfortably come the {9-Hearts} turn and {J-Hearts} river.

Jeffrey Darling Busts Out

Jeffrey Darling is OUT.

He reraised Sergey Rybachenko preflop, and then went all in to Rybachenko's check on the {A-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} flop. Darling was holding {A-Spades} {K-Spades} for top pair, but Rybachenko had {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} for the devil's own set. No help on the turn or river, and he's OUT, in 100th place money.

Action From When the Internet Went Down

9.30pm

Action has been a little slow, as befits the early stages of the round. Players are very aware that places 100 through 11 will get the same money, and that between 10th and first places, there is a difference of almost $330,000 -- it's worth picking your spots wisely. Hence much of the action so far has comprised a mid- or late-position raise taking down the blinds.

9.38pm

Danny Smith raises to 2,000 preflop, only for Khalid Hameed to make it 6,200. Smith flat-calls, and goes on to check the {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop. Hameed bets 5,000, and Smith calls. They both check the {2-Spades} turn, and Smith bets 8,000 on the {6-Hearts} river. Hameed calls him, and is horrified to see that his {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} are not only not ahead, but they were behind from the very beginning -- Smith flips over {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} to take the sizeable pot.

9.41pm

Jared Okun is OUT, John McKinney the beneficiary of almost all his chips. McKinney raised preflop and bet every street of the {10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Hearts} board. Okun was ahead until the river with pocket jacks, but McKinney was holding pocket fours to river the straight. Ouch. Down to just 400 chips after this hand, it wasn't long before he died his tournament death and headed for the rail.

Alexander the Great

Whilst we await action from the rest of the room, table one has already experienced it's own share of drama in the form of a double up. With Mark Radoja opening the betting with a 1,800 preflop raise, he and opponent Alexander Triner went raise crazy, Triner making it 8,000, Radoja pushing all in and Triner making the call.

On their backs, and it was pray to the gods time, both players coinflipping with Triner's {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} boasting the slight edge against Radoja's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. A very raggy board hit the baize and Radoja was down to the felt.

A few hands later and he was gone, albeit in rather controversial circumstances. Having pushed all in and revealed his hand, {A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}, the dealer accidentally pushed them into the muck. The floor was duly called over and the cards reclaimed, but as his opponent revealed his superior {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, Radoja probably rued not claiming he had the bullets, the {9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} board proving clinical and swiftly sending Radoja to the rail.

Round Two Kicks Off

Players are back, starting round two on level ten with 30,000 chips apiece. In a popular move, the TD has decided to allow ipods through this level, so our in-the-money players are at liberty to keep their musical vibe going.
