Lee Watkinson Doubles Up

After patiently waiting for his spot to double up, Lee Watkinson found it. Action folded around to David Benyamine in the cutoff seat and he raised to 4,100. Watkinson slowly peeked at his cards and then pushed all in for 7,200 total. The blinds folded and Benyamine took his time deciding how many cards, if any, to discard. He eventually tossed out the {7-Spades} face up, opting for just one new card. Watkinson opted for the same. Benyamine got his card first and he quickly looked at it and said "you win." Watkinson rolled over his hand {J-?} {7-?} {6-?} {5-?} {3-?} and Benyamine mucked. Lee Watkinson doubled up to just over 18,000.

Mortensen Hanging On

When you're all in before the draw in deuce-to-seven, you hope that you draw well. Barring that, you hope that your opponent draws worse than you do. That was the case for Carlos Mortensen, who got his last 6,400 in and drew one. He made a queen-ten. That was the best hand after his opponent also drew one and paired nines.

Mortensen is still on life support with just 14,000 chips.

Watkinson Crippled

Lee Watkinson moved all in for about 30,000 before the draw. His opponent called all in for less. Watkinson held 8-7-5-2 and drew one card. His opponent stood pat on a T-9. Any baby that didn't pair his hand would win the pot for Watkinson, but he squeezed out a second seven to pair up. After the hand, he had just 7,000 chips left.

Play Resumes

Players are back from the break. We will play two more levels tonight before calling it quits. Fifty players remain, with an average stack of about 71,000.

Tony G Wins a Big Pot on a Huge Bluff

Just before we hit our last break for the night, Tony G pulled off a massive bluff against Michael Binger. After the draw, he moved all in for 17,500 into a 65,000 pot. Binger squeezed out his cards, considered his options, and then mucked despite getting almost 5-to-1 on his money.

Tony G let out a huge, cat-who-ate-the-canary grin and turned over 3-3-3-10-5 for trip 3s! After raking this pot, he is up to about 82,000 in chips.

"I Thought We Were Cool"

A seemingly bored Shawn Sheikhan hopped up out of his chair and wandered over to an adjacent table and asked "are you guys gambling over here? You know you can't win if you don't gamble." A smiling, but seemingly half-annoyed Billy Baxter told Sheikhan "just go back to your game over there." Doyle Brunson looked up and said "you should keep it down over there Matuso-er I mean Sheiky." Sheikhan's expression quickly turned somewhat serious. "I thought we were cool Doyle?"

Greenstein Doubles via Deeb

Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb
After Freddy Deeb reraised an early position player from 3,000 to 11,000, Barry Greenstein moved all in from the big blind for a total of 16,600. The early position player folded.

"How much more is it?" Deeb asked.

"5,600," replied the dealer.

Deeb silently slid 5,600 chips out in front of him, then flashed his hand with an "oops" grin on his face: 8-8-Q-2-3. He threw away the queen and an eight and drew two. Greenstein stood pat and opened a 9-7.

Deeb squeezed out a 5, but his other card was a jack for a jack-eight. He threw his hand into the muck.

"I didn't like that," he said.

"I didn't like it either," replied Greenstein. He is now up to 36,000 in chips.
