Late Registration

Taking advantage of the new full-stack rule, Howard Lederer and Ted Lawson have both joined our field within the last minute, and coincidentally, they have drawn the same table as well. Registration remains open for just a few more minutes.

Hey, HE'S ALLEN CUNNINGHAM

Five men, including Allen Cunningham, see a flop of {3-Hearts} {K-Hearts} {5-Clubs}. Action is checked around to the button, and he makes a bet of 1,500. That is enough to scare everyone else out, but Cunningham check-raises all in for a total of 4,950, as the opponent calls.

Cunningham has a pair of aces with a flush draw: {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}. His opponent is ahead, but at risk with a set: {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {10-Clubs}.

The turn gives Cunningham a flush, and the river seals the deal, as the last two cards off are the {4-Hearts} and {10-Hearts}. The pro knocks out a player, and moves his count up to 10,350 in the early going.

Clements Down and Up

On a flop showing {8-Spades} {K-Spades} {8-Diamonds}, Scott Clements check-raised an opponent all in, looking to double up as he tabled {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {2-Clubs}. His full house held up, and he did indeed double back close to 5,000.

Pass the Sugar

Joe Hachem and two other players went to a flop of {J-Spades} {9-Clubs} {3-Clubs}. All three men got their whole stacks into the middle with two cards to come. Hachem tabled {9-Diamonds} {9-Hearts}, and was up against a smaller set, {3-Spades} {3-Hearts}, and a double draw, {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs}.

The turn and river ran safe for Hachem though, when they came {5-Hearts}, {2-Spades} respectively. Hachem, down a little bit early, has now tripled back into contention, standing at 6,900.

Pair vs. Pair

We pick up this hand on the flop, in a heads-up pot between Scott Clements and Carter Gill. The board shows {8-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {J-Spades}. Clements leads out with a bet of 750, and Gill bumps it up to 2,200. Clements comes back over the top all in, and Gill puts his chips in as well, tabling {K-Clubs} {K-Spades}. Clements sees the bad news: his {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} is also an overpair to the board, but is drawing very slim against the cowboys.

The turn and river come {5-Spades}, {3-Clubs} respectively, failing to help Clements, and knocking him down to 2,500 chips. Gill, meanwhile, has climbed up close to 9,000.

Gone So Soon

As expected, the pace of play is fairly slow here in the first few levels. A few pros, however, have already gotten involved in big pots early, and have come up on the wrong end. Notable eliminations so far include David Williams, Woody Deck, Victor Ramdin, David "Devilfish" Ulliott, and Josh Arieh.

A Champion's Welcome

With 2005 WSOP Champion Joe Hachem arriving at his seat, he is greeted by John Juanda and Lee Watkinson, making this one of the toughest tables in the room.
